Does anyone know how to get in touch with this Beau Layman person?
And here is another question that I'd appreciate feedback on:
How would you feel if your wife took your very first mountain bike and had it made into furniture? Justin refuses to get rid of his first mountain bike - it's steel and hanging in the rafters in the garage - so I was thinking of having it made into something like the bike furniture and presenting it to him for Christmas. Thoughts? Comments?

Great idea, but I wouldn't do it without his knowledge. I'd be pretty upset if one of my bikes disappeared and became unrideable.

Yeah, that's why I hesitate. He bought it in the mid-80s and the company that made it isn't even around anymore. (It's stamped with the words, "Supergo"?)
This thing is so sentimental. He was in the Navy and would take it with him when he went out to sea. The thing has been to Cuba........and who knows where else?!
I think it would be OK to do with one of his other bikes, but this one is pretty special to him. My friend suggested he turn it into a single speed (I don't think that idea crossed either or our minds). Someone else suggested that I find a way to frame it.

I didn't understand that comment. Are you trying to be dirty? :eyeroll:

I'd wait for it to fail before doing anything like that. I have a '96 Rocky Mountain Blizzard my wife bought as a surprise birthday present for me. I've always told her that I'll never get rid of the frame. Once it becomes un-rideable, it's going on the wall somewhere (probably garage :eyeroll:). But do something with it for him. Guys tend to be more sentiMENTAL about things like that.

NO the saddle is th best memory of most my bikes because you are sitting on it so much If you have the original saddle it must be incorprated into the peice of art.

Supergo was a nice mail order company. It was bought out a few years ago by the same company that owns Nashbar and Performance, then shut down.
I agree about not "surprising" him by turning his bike into furniture. Even though he never rides it, that bike might have sentimental value, and be strange enough that he'll someday want to ride it in a parade or something.

I totally didn't mean to hijack this thread.
Curt - he was a Fire Controller in the Navy from '89-94 and was assigned to a fast frigit.
So, his bike came up in coversation last night during dinner. We were talking about him turning it into a single speed, which he seemed pretty excited about.
Then I said "I had actually thought of turning it into a work of art."
He's like "What!?"
"There is this guy who makes bike frames and parts into art. I was thinking about having your bike made into something," I explained
He sat there in disbelief that I would do something to his baby....akward silence filled the air.....
His riding buddy was having dinner with us. I sheepishly looked across the table at his buddy - they both sat there with looks of shock. Then his buddy looked at me, then looked at Justin and started snickering.
I am SO glad I didn't follow through with the idea.
I think that just might have been grounds for divorce. Or some heavy duty counseling.
Thanks for your feedback everyone.
Weird. I did a google search with my name and this thread came up! Hahahahaha...
Here's a table I finished this week. For Sale BTW.
And my website. I need someone to take good photos for me though.
