Is everything pretty much not rideable until much later in the season (mountain or road)?

Ride Fruita.

Stick to the low elevation areas like Fruita.

March is the best skiing month in CO!

Nights will be below freezing even in late March in Fruita. Day can be anywhere from almost freezing to 70's

Moab is the same way. Got snowed on in town during a MidMarch trip to Moab.

Yep, I've been to Moab in March and one day was snowed on and two days later it was 70. The high plateau region west of the Rockies is really up and down that time of year.

Yep, but oh so worth it!!!

In addition to just incredible trails to begin with, there are far fewer people out there that time of year...a big bonus for places like Moab that get swamped during the summer.

I've been to Moab many times in March for spring break and its always been in the 70's. It does get chilly at night though...

Like most places, March is the snowiest month in CO so it is pretty unpredictable. That said, the weather can be great. Front range trails should be rideable as long as one of the 4 foot blizzards don't roll through.

If you are thinking Front Range Trails, check out Deer Creek Canyon. I rode there a couple times a week when I lived out there. Lung busting climbs, great downhills and lots of techincal rocks.

I don't really want to risk a trip out West so now I am thinking more eastern and south. Any opinions on Kentucky or Tennessee? I am trying to split the distance that I have to drive and my brother (Rochester, NY).

Front Range is definitely a go in March. We ride all year round but by March, cycling is in full swing. The higher elevations will definetly have snow but theres tons of stuff all along the front range. You should come up to Lyons (north of Boulder) and hook up with us at Redstone Cyclery (www.redstonecyclery.com). We ride every Tuesday night (with lights or no lights depending on how long we ride). There are also many groups rides throughout the week and weekend.

PM me or email me at schuman19@hotmail.com. If you're ever in the neighborhood, I'd be happy to show you some sweet sweet local trails.

Do Apex... technical, lots of climbing. Mt. Falcon is a good ride as well...

Lots of fun stuff out there. Just not all that thrilled with the shared, multi-direction, multi-use thing. The trails get quite busy at times, and if you meet hikers or horses you must get off your bike and yield. Talks about no flow to the trail when you are busy waiting all the time... and of course there are bike riders who bomb down the hills and create their own issues.

Wish they had a few trails like Leb out there. I'm not sure of one "official" mountain bike only trail that exists there (of course I wish we had a few trails like theirs too!!!) ;)

Apex is awesome. I almost crashed into an elk on the Enchanted Forest section. :crazy2:

Mt Falcon is another good ride with an extended climb and tough water bars.

I also ran into a few elk going uphill toward the Enchanted Forest... as I was climbing I could hear this really eerie sound... then I get to the top and there are two elk battling it out right on the trail. Needless to say I had to sit there a while before I dared to continue the ride. Was pretty cool.

November in the hills is still clear in southern CO. Past weekend was around 8-9k elevation and felt like breaking out the shorts. Nights are getting cool though. T-day ride looks like we are going to hit Pines a old ghost town in the pueblo of Jemez.
