mara's and my first official running event together. We ran the Nerstrand Big Woods Run (which was on dirt roads because of wet trails) on Saturday. We choose the 10K option since it was longer than either of us had run before, but not so long we would not make it.

The event was fun. We were both sore for trailwork yesterday and I think we are even more sore today. I can hardly get in and out of my chair without pain. I don't think either of us will become big time runners, but we are working on at least doing some runs and dual's and tri's.

YAY! Congratulations you two!!! Isnt it a great feeling to cross that finish line.

I did my first Dual a week ago last Sunday in Osceola. It was amazing I would highly recommend them. The osceola one was nice because we ran 3 miles, 22 bike ride, than the last run was only 1 mile. That proved to be the hardest part of the whole event.

Did you have the soup?

I love that race. I've done it the last couple years but had to miss out this year. Any race that involves hanging out in a graveyard is tops in my book.

Next year we can all do the 1/2 marathon.

Did you have the soup?

Yes because it was vegetarian. I was surprised they had only veggie soup and it really was good!!

Uh.....yeah. Have fun with that....:)

Uh.....yeah. Have fun with that....:)

It's easier then you think

It's easier then you think

I have a hard time believing that since the 6.2 miles we ran Saturday was pretty tough. I can't imagine 13.1 miles......ouch!!

If you're able to do a 10 k you'll be able to run a 1/2 marathon without too much trouble. Running is exponential so going from a 10k to 20k is not that much more difficult then going from 5k to 10k.

Think about it this way. Conventional wisdom says that you shouldn't increase distance by more then 10% a week. So if you're running 15 miles a week, a good 10 k distance, you can add 1.5 miles a week without a hitch. If your running 30 miles a week you can add 3 miles without a problem.

Besides you have a good base from biking.

I won't discount the idea of doing a 1/2 Marathon. But since I like to bike so much more and I don't think I would ever become a runner, it's probably not likely. I guess we will see what the future has in store for me....uh....I mean us...:)

In my experience, I've found that running is often better base training for mountain biking than road biking. It strengthens all of the leg muscles, and with some hill running and changes in pace, it simulates the varied cadence of mountain biking better than the constant cadence of road riding.

I love running, but I am rarely able to since I have tendonitis in my right knee and the impact hurts like a b@#!*. I've actually gotten more into mountain biking because of it though!
