View Full Version : Ride: BC/Salem Wed Night 10/24-6:30????
Well... you might know it finally stops raining and now the Battle Creek deer hunt starts up. :banghead:
What are the thoughts on moving the Wed. Night BC ride to Salem?
Post up if your in. If we have enough riders we'll go for it (read at least 4). I'm just recovering from a cold/flu so it's going to be a slow one for me. I might even ride fixie.

Would we be riding BC and Salem ?
BC is closed on Wed for deer hunting.
I wouldnt mind doing the switch to Salem.

Are the hunters going to be in the park after the sun goes down, or does their permit include the use of lights (normally highly illegal)?
Good question... but I don't think I want to mess with it. Let's just stay away from BC for the next 3 days.

I will be in Iowa that day, but I am sure that I can make it to Salem in time. If not, then I can always look for the stream of lights off in the distance. I just want to ride!!!

I am in for Salem
From my experience, it seems that they close the park for all hours during the hunt. The hunters cannot take game in the dark but I believe they just keep everyone out to avoid disturbing the animals at night. I'd vote for Salem as well.
I'd also be game for a 6 PM start time.

Tuesday?
We traditionally had group rides at Salem on Tuesday nights. This was going to be our first week, now that Tuesday night Leb trail work is finished. Any chance of you guys switching in the future so that we can combine forces?
Yeah, I'll be all over the Tuesday night rides (At least the ones that don't conflict with scout meetings). This is just a special because of the BC deer hunt that is going on this Wed then again in mid-Nov. Not sure how much longer we'll keep the Wed. Night BC ride going. I guess until interest drops off. But we won't keep scheduling Wed. rides at Salem. (Just a special one off.... maybe two when the next deer hunt comes around).
I haven't seen the posting yet are you riding tomorrow?

Not that I'm aware of. I was just trying to head off the possibility of always having two weekly rides to Salem. This week is a special odd case, so we'll skip the Tuesday night Salem ride. (I rode there last night, anyway.)
To the group: When you ride the woods section near the pond, you'll see a tree that I cut off and tried getting completely off of the trail. The upper part is hung up in another tree, and poking out about 1/3 of the way into the trail. If you can get a few people to try giving it a push, you will hopefully send it the rest of the way into the woods. Thanks.
So right now it looks like we have:
Troy
Travis
Shawn
Me
I guess that meets the 4 rider min. so we're on for Wed. Night at Salem..
Troy, are you getting there at 6:00 to get an early lap in? I might be able to make it by then also.
Anyone else feel free to join us. ;)

Nick,
It would be pretty tough following someone. Although it is a full moon ;-)
Actually I have a spare light set-up you can use if you want. Not the best but better than nothing.

That would be great if i could borrow a set of lights. I will let you know a little later if I am going to be able to make it. I hope I can as i haven't ridden in over a week.
Thanks

You Bastard! I hope you didn't go last night. I said next week for sure....I need some Surly Fest:jumpy:
No Don... Fun but tough night, between the 6 of us that rode: 1 battery pack melt down, 1 ripped tire casing, 1 trip over the handlebars.

Tom, I think you missed one OTB, and a few attempts at making new trail. But, a GREAT ride!! Interesting temp changes between woods and prairie. Full moon!
