View Full Version : Future of Steeplechase
I just got back from my Welch Village Ski Patrol refresher where I learned that Steeplechase will not be open for skiing this winter and it's future as a ski area is uncertain. As a result many of the Steeplechase patrollers are coming over to the Welch Village Patrol. Anybody have any idea what this might mean for mountain biking at Steeplechase?

Just a guess. But if they can't insure skis they can't insure bikes either. Once again the almighty dollar strikes again.

I am guessing that this isn't a popular idea but they don't have to insure it-

Nice find Ben. What the insurance industry doesn't want you to see.

The recreational use statute applies to places that do not charge for use. Once you charge, it changes the game.
Unrelated to recreational use, but related to insurance... If you're the land owner, you don't need insurance, you can operate without it. You're just opening your business and yourself up to major liability if you get sued and lose. Hence, insurance to limit your exposure to risk.

that was my point. if they don't charge us to ride there they won't need insurance. Although how many buyers would be interested in letting us ride there for free, which is why I stated that the likelihood of it was pretty low.

I was thinking you meant continuing charging, but not carrying insurance.
