I lived in Hibbing until I went off to college, but didn't start mountain biking until after I'd left. I'm back in town visiting for the weekend and have my bike--where is there to ride 'round here?

Thanks,

Isaac

Really! I'm from Hibbin. Somebody has been working on some single track up on maplehill. Take 1st Ave to Lindquist rd.... drive less than mile to top of hill and take a left on the gravel road that takes up up to the top(Tower Rd???)(where the towers are) The trail cuts in on the south end of lot. They're nothing too special but its impressive for single track in Hibbing and it has lots of potential!
You can always ride the dumps! Or the new single track in Grand Rapids.

Joe Sacco (JMS) may have some more input....if he's around these days:confused:

Hmm... May have to hit up Rapids... Any idea how long / how technical the maple hill trail is? (My grandparents used to live on Lindquist, so I'm at least aware of the area.)

i've rode it twice and not exactly sure how the loop/loops are suppose to run? I probably didnt even ride all of it. They were building up some new stuff when i went out last but its not too technical. If you're in town i would check it out. Maybe you could hook up with Joe and he could show you around.

I'll be going out with my little brother, and I'm not sure what he's up for--he's not done much riding on 'real' trails, mostly four-wheeler trails, i think. Joe, if you see this... I'd love to hear your input.

And I was riding Giants Ridge while you were helping out with the race. That's a big hill back there. There's also some pretty thick rain. :D I was up at the top of the ski lifts when the storm hit. I wish we had some terrain like that down here in Minneapolis that can be ridden when wet. Guilt-free muck spraying downhill.

I covered a lot of ground at Big Aspen the next day. It's not only singletrack that can show you a good time. Big Aspen got my legs and arms really tired. Rocks. Lots of rocks. Rocks everywhere. Miles of rocks. I had a blast.

We ended up hitting a bunch of ATV trails. Mud is fun :) I'll definitely hit up the forums ahead of time instead of waiting until the night that I get there...

right now big aspen is perfect for riding!! nightly lows have really knocked down the tall grass. not enough people ride the trails to keep the grass down during the summer months.
people xc ski the crap out of that area during the winter.
aslo.....if you are into geocaching big aspen has 5 caches within the trail system.

Joe

The guy at the bike shop at Giants Ridge said there isn't any singletrack at GR, but he did suggest that there is singletrack in the area and "you have to be a local to find it." ;)

They are currently building singletrack in Grand Rapids. The local affiliate up there is hard at work!

i know this trail you speak of. the last time i was there was around 5 or 6 years ago. the last i heard was the guys that built it have moved out of the area, but it could've been a way to discourage people from riding it. guess i'll have to check it out, if i can remember where it is.
