Missed this post Friday, so I hope you had a good ride. I worked Sunday on Switchback, so all the ruts are cordory'd and filled and I cut back any scraps the loggers left there. Even though parts of SB won't look pretty with the tops cut, at least the trail itself will ride much better.
Colors are just poppin like crazy-just getting beautiful out there.

I can't wait for the weekend to ride and check the colors out!

Rode out there Saturday/Sunday and the trails were GREAT!
I thought Sidewinder was wicked. Props to whoever designed that.
The colors were incredible.
The logging sucked though. They were out in full force on Saturday, which sucked. But the trees fought back and put them out of commission by popping a tire on the logging machine.

Did it storm there Friday night? We bailed due to the storms that "looked" to be heading that way.
Hopefully we will make it yet this fall.

Jason-Too bad-it blew in and out from about 4:30-5:30 pm and then sun and a nice sunset and dry the rest of the weekend.

Thats about right. There must not have been much rain as the trails were great on saturday morning.
What does Levis look like this spring? When did the ground thaw out, do you have any snow? How long do you guess till they are open?

Yep-dried out and ready to roll. It did snow last night, but not much and it's cold enough-so no worries. Some of the trails like Yellowjacket and hermosa are getting cleaned up this weekend after logging, but most of the trails should be good to go.

If the Metro trails are not dry by next weekend, May 3, then Levis would be the place to go.
Road trip anybody?

Thinking about heading up that way for a quick overnight (6/13). Are there any current conditions reports?

David-We've had a lot of rain lately, but riding should be fine. There are some wet spots down on Yellowjacket, but that's pretty common. A few trees down, but we plan on having those cleaned up this week.

Hey Buzz -- thanks for the update! With the additional rain forecasted today and tomorrow, it might be quite soggy Friday/Saturday.
I'll keep an eye to the weather and check back Thursday night.
Thanks!

Just came back from 6 hrs out there looking at trail projects.....some things are wet, but there were riders out there and it all seemed pretty good. Think back to most Chequamegon '40s and you'd swear you're in a desert!

BTW-the forester had a lg bear in the field by the chalet and one of our workers ran into a bear laying on the trail the other day-saw new tracks today as a matter of fact in some mud-not to worry....they usually run away faster than you can imagine-I saw a small guy a couple weeks ago turkey hunting near there. Way cool to see for sure!

Cool. Looks like our overnight will still be on, then. Sounds like (from AccuWeather.com) you guys are getting some weather right now but that the trail drys out pretty rapidly. With the sandy soil, I suppose that makes sense.
About the bear(s)... Maybe I'll sleep in the truck. :)

Just an update... Our overnight at Levis was great! The mid/upper trails are in great condition. The lower trails (which we stayed away from where possible) were a bit wet (Yellow Jacket for example). Not much in the way of down trees. Reported a few (Goat Dance and Hermosa) to Chris who was there doing trail work. The only bummer about the trip? My nice new ride is sporting it's first frame scratch (and a big one at that - :( ). Oh well, it can't look pretty forever...
Thanks local crew for the trail work! Levis is always a great time.

The route I like is I94 to Hwy 121, follow that to Hwy 95 to the parking lot:

Hopefully the link works.

That is a nice route- the hwy 121 exit has bridge work on it right now, but is open and you just have to wait at a light to go thru-121 comes out on 95 just outside of Alma Center-then about 12 miles to Levis. Turn LEFT on Fisher Road (and Hwy J) to get to the trail center trail head, NOT the Hwy 95 trailhead.
All road work on 95 last year is done-maybe that is where you had problems. The other way is to get off in Hixton (hwy 95 & I-94) and take that all the way east to Levis.
Most of the trails are like are super hardpacked and fast after last weeks 100 mi race. We're doing 3 or 4 days of trail work in the morning this 4th of July weekend.
Best wishes-
