Weekly Leb ride. The "day" portion is shrinking, so be sure to have your lights ready for both laps.

Post up if you can make it.

No official post ride plans exist, but rumor is its someone's 50th birthday on Thursday so we'll have to see if anything gets added to the plans. Please check back just in case things change slightly.

I'm in - 6:00 sharp to start my first lap, then night-lapping it with whoever's available to ride a moderate-speeded lap. If you're with me on the night lap, however, YOU MUST NOT DITCH ME IN THE WOODS! ;) I'm serious, dammit. Group night ride means group night ride. It's freakin' dark out there, things are jumping out of everywhere, and I LOVE IT, but...I'm a chicken. We need an emoticon of a chicken. John?? Chicken me!

I'm down for the COL post-ride, or OC...whichever. Anything that involves copious amounts of dark beer and something fried.

I have no idea what I'm talking about, so here's a...:bunny:

April, you are more than welcome to do the night lap with me. I ride it pretty slow... I like being out there at night as well, so I usually take my time through there... And I promise I will not leave you stranded... :incazzato:

I will be trying out my measley 1 light on the night lap so I may only hit the beginner loop if it isn't strong enough...otherwise I ride at a moderate pace normally and will be going S-L-O-W for a first night ride.
The forecast is not looking good at this time though so I wouldn't get your hopes up!

Well, Thursday is my birthday. "50" That's "L" in roman numerals. 350 in dog years.

So, I'm starting to plan out my day. Here's the tentative schedule:

1: Give Blood at 8:15 am (I just scheduled an appointment)
2: Work all day.
3: Attend the Leb group ride at 7:00pm Don't know how many laps I'll be good for or how slow I'll be. Probably only 1 lap, slower pace than usual.
4: Meet my wife at OC for beverages. She'll make sure that I get home at a reasonable hour.

If this schedule kills me, I'll still have technically made it to 50.

I still liked the KOD idea... what better way to celebrate 50. OC is a close second.. at least the way they have been ending up lately anyway :crazy2: ;)

We'll collect up all the people who might be in the COL when the night lap is over and head right over to celebrate.

Those not wanting to celebrate with Bob and the rest of us... well... thats just sad and disrespectful. ;) We'll be having Bobfest so there will be another chance to celebrate then.

The radar shows whats out there now moving off well to the north.. but if we do have any significant amount of rain we'll have to call the ride off. (I haven't even gotten word that the trail is even open yet - but I assume so)

OC is the backup plan.. we'll just have more time to celebrate Bob's 50th!

If you only have one light, go with a helmet mount. It's better because you can see where you need to go. With a handlebar only....you can't see ahead around the corners until you actually start making the turn.

whats the best way to go for lights? helmit mount bar mount? types etc

Best way to go, really bight helmet mount light, then semi decent handle bar (Cateye Light cube or something like that) for up close.

Light & Motion Arc is a really good light, then the Night Rider's aren't too bad either.

Yeah...but sometimes comments are reaching pretty far to be funny. It seems like you can't say anything around here without getting burned or have a wisecrack remark about it. I understand when something can obviously be commented on and funny........but sometimes I feel we reach too far and it gets old.

Brian,

Look for the group of strange people with lights on their heads, and come over to join us. It typically gets kind of confusing starting a ride, so it's best if the one person joins the group rather than the other way around.

See you there!

TV shows a chance, but weather.com's radar shows it all going well north.

Depends on if it continues to build to our SW.

Just so everyone knows, there are warnings out - so this is your option to opt out for safety. I don't want to be responsible for anyone getting caught out in a storm or tornado.

We'll keep a watch right up to 7 - if i looks bad or rains we'll all be at OC celebrating Bob's big 50. Otherwise I hope to get those 2 laps in before the partying starts...

Yup, they just went off. Looks like we'll probably get hit - not as bad as most of the metro, but likely enough to not want traffic on the trail.

We'll know in a bit. It almost looks like it might part in the middle right over Leb!

So, I went to leb and was waiting. I got there about 6:00 or so. A small rain started. Then it started to get light out and I thought....oh....this will blow over and the trails will be fine. I called Bob and he said more was on the way. I didn't want to believe him, but as more rain came I gave up, along with some others, and started to drive home. On my way home I saw a really low cloud. To me it looked a lot like a tornado.....I was on 35E at about 6:30 or so. The cloud was to my west and was getting closer and lower to the ground. It was wide.....and well....shaped like a funnel. But I kept thinking....oh no big deal....it's just a low cloud. I sped up and as I approached 70 or so, I started to hydroplane. It was raining super hard. Then I looked at this cloud and thought......if it's a tornado...I am screwed. I had to stay at about 65 MPH or I would lose control of my car. I did manage to pass the cloud and after that I was like...."That was pretty freaky". Then I thought....no biggie...it was just a low funnel shaped cloud.

Once at OC, I told Bob about it. He told me the news reported a tornado near 35E at around 6:30. Then I got all freaked out again......I raced a tornado......that was nuts!!! Let's put it this way.....I felt a little helpless. If I stopped it would come right at me. I sped up to out run it and I started to hydro plane. I had to keep at 65 and hope for the best.....not fun.

Oh well......I am here and I had a good time at OC talking with people. Thanks for the cake Nita!! You rock!!!

Hope everyone else made it through the storm okay.....it was intense!!
