Thanks

Sorry, the Mid MN Cycling Group is in the dark on maps and the such. We are doing our best just to bring the race to the people. I will try to describe the start loop. All categories will be racing a start loop to spread things out before you hit the single track, which I remind you is AWESOME! From the gun you will lap around the parking lot and then head down the ski trail which is a gentle rolling affair that lasts about 1 mile, you then get your first taste of our fine single track that is about another 1 mile, this single track will take you to the lap area where you will then go back around the parking lot and then straight into the single track where you will have the time of your life!!

I just rode the jail trail for the first time last week. It was a lot of fun. I think I need to trim my handle bars down a bit to go faster:p

Another question:
How is the start finish area for little kids to run around without getting in the way? OK??? I want to bring the fam but just curious.
Thanks.

Kyia,
I last rode the jail trail late last fall and would like to make another fall trip up to the Jail Trail. There was talk of more singletrack being added in the future. Has there been any new singletrack added since last October? Just wondering. Thanks!
P.S. The Jail Trail is great!

Bring the kids along with their bikes! We have a kids race. As for the start finish area, it will be mostly taped off, but the area is tight so caution is needed.
Yes, new single track has been added! It's very technical in nature but is getting ridden in so new lines have formed, etc. This section is not in the race, a little on the slow end.

I'd like to say thanks for this great trail. I've had the chance to ride it twice before the big 40 in Cable and I just love this place. I really like all the technical areas, we need more of that around this state. Great job to all that have put time in on this trail. ;)

I was looking forward to this race, but some things came up and I won't be able to attend.
Good luck with the race, hopefully we don't get too much more rain!

The radar made it look like the jail trail took a downpour today. Will it be open for preriding Friday during the day?

We got quite a bit of rain up here this morning up until the early afternoon. I won't have a chance to go check the trail out but I'm guessing it's pretty wet.

I rode the Jail Trail today to prepare for the race. I took the GPS along and recorded the attached map. Note that I don't know the race course so take this as a trail map and not a course map. Perhaps the race people may point out the areas that are in and out.

I just realized this ended up being pretty low resolution in the post. I uploaded a JPG to the Jail Trail section. Hopefully it will appear there in a higher resolution.

Thanks for doing that Scott, I've wanted to see a Map of the trail for a while now, just didn't have access to the equipment.
I wish I could help with the race course but I didn't make it there last year. I don't know where the course follows the cross country trails vs the singletrack.
Good luck to all those riding!!!
Just got back from pre-riding the trail and it's in good shape. One or two greasy corners, but they should be dried out by tomorrow with all the wind and it should be perfectly tacky.
As far as the race course goes, this is also my first time there and they were still taping it. I got dizzy with all the single track switchbacks, but it felt like most of the single track that was in Woodchuck's map is in the race course. Every once in a while the course tosses you out on to the ski trail for a chance to pass.

Well, I verified something today at this race. There is definitely an advantage to using clipless pedals. Actually I verified the opposite, there is definitely a DISADVANTAGE to running platform pedals and regular skateboarding shoes. I thought it would be funny to use an old-school pedal combination for this race for a couple reasons. One, no one else in the Comp class would ever do it. Two, it's pretty flat there so I didn't think the lifting ablilty of clipless would come into play so much. Uh, yeah, wrong on that one! On the other side of the issue, the platforms made me feel much more confident on anything technical. No concerns of tipping over before getting unclipped. That happens to me more often than I like.:hit: I took every obstacle, no matter how far off the line it was, or how much more time it took. Only one person passed me when I went way over to ride a big log pile. Of course it was a Peace Coffee guy.:p Kid actually. Still in junior high I think. I gave him an appropriate amount of crap for it, all in good fun though. I said, "Hey! You just passed me!" He replied with the best possible comeback, "That's the idea." Perfect.:D
Good times there today. Surprising how much a "flat" trail can wear a person out.

I was taking up the rear in Comp, and I heard someone yell out "you're wearing tennis shoes!" to a rider somewhere way ahead of me. Glad to figure out who that guy was.
Oh and that Peace Coffee kid, he's frickin' fast. Smokes me every time.

What a great race!
Josh (Kid's comp) and I, did not race last year, so we didn't know what to expect. The race was well run and a lot of fun. Thanks to everyone involved!
See you all next year!

Thanks for the great race! I love this race because it is so different from all the others. I thought everything was well run and the weather was perfect, what more could you ask for.
It was an awesome season!
