View Full Version : Ride: Battle Creek Wed. 9/19 5:30pm
If the weather man is right we'll have a window between storms to get a ride in on Wed. So come check out the new and improving Battle Creek.
If we get a lot of rain check this thread at about 3:00 Wed. for a final go/no-go, on the ride.
5:30 Rec Center parking lot off Winthrop. I'll try to be on time this week:crazy:
P.S. New riders wanted.... must be good with turkeys.

I may be in if the weather holds. I have ridden there a couple times and still have no idea where i have been or am going. Plus it's like 5 minutes from my house.

Today: Occasional showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 2pm, then periods of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. High near 78. South southwest wind between 10 and 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between one and two inches possible.
Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms likely before 3am, then a slight chance of showers. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 60. South wind 9 to 11 mph becoming west northwest. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
I dont want to put a damper (pun intended) on the ride, but thats alot of rain.
I know BC drains good, so there is a chance we can ride.

I am in. We need more tire tracks on the new section. If it rains, I may just go out and bench some of the connector trail.

Dang, I was planning on going to Erik's Warehouse sale tonite. Sounds like another good group, if the trail is dry.
I'm still cautiously optimistic for the ride tonight. Hasn't rained here since ~9:00 last night and the sun is starting to break out. I'm thinking most of the trail will be OK, although we might need to skip Goat Trail and Pallet Bridge. I'll run over to BC at noon to check conditions. Look for the final word about here about 3:00

Blame the dampness on pirates.... today's ITLAPD (Int'l. Talk Like A Pirate day). Or bring your parrot... Me bottle of rum may interfere with riding...
Arrrrrrr..........
...lol, random holidays are great.

If we still are riding today I may not make it at 5:30 as i will have to wait for my friend to get there. Do you usually leave at 5:30 or meet there and then leave around 6?
We try to leave at about 5:30. But we can do a short loop and swing back by the lot at 6:00.

Sounds good. I will see if my friend can make it there by 5:30. If not swinging back at 6 would be nice, as I don't know BC very well yet.
It looks like we can't make it at 5:30 but can be there by 6 for sure. so if you guys could swing by we will be there in a black Yukon and my name is Nick.
Group ride at BC tonight is a GO!
I went out at noon and all the single track I scouted was dry. Some of the ski trail was still a little soft. (I'll skip the rant about building unsustainable ski trails in a climate that never gets enough snow to use them.)
Be at the Rec Center Parking lot at 5:30. We'll do a short loop on the east side and then come back to the lot to pick up any stragglers at 6:00.
See you soon!

I'm leaving work now, will pick up my bike and head over. I should be there right around 5:30.

Great ride everyone. That new trail is looking great. Big thumbs up for everyone that has worked on it so far, I hope to make it out next monday and lend a hand.
Thanks to everyone who came out to ride last night. The new (almost completed) Overlook Trail was a little soft (not much compaction yet) but the rest of the trails were in great condition. A few of us hung around for beer and BS afterwords. Maybe one or two more Wed.'s and then we'll have to call it quits, or switch to headlights and night riding. The ride back to the parking lot last night was mostly by braille.
P.S. Turkeys were sighted, but avoided, the squirrels dive bombed us from the trees, and a white tail tried to knock a couple of us off the trail. I think the wild life is plotting against us at BC. :hit:
Good ride last night! I'm loving the weather. Little more humid than I thought it'd be. Man the daylight is fading fast!
Like Tom said, trails were in great shape with the exception of a portion of the new upper overlook trail. We'll remove all evidence shortly. ;)
Fun running into all that wildlife out there!
Nice meeting you Nick and Jarred! Sorry I couldn't hang around longer to visit.

So I am thnking that by next month I will time to get out to BC and after I take the TURKEY SAFETY CLASS this winter I know at least I will be ready for it next year :D
Gus... we'll be doing some Saturday work/ride sessions in October if ever want to join us. Watch the BC Trails forum we'll post up.
Remember Turkey safety is a life long commitment!

I didn't make the group ride, but I did ride BC for the first time last night. Since we started out around 7pm, there wasn't much time to ride, but with those hills, we mashed out a good workout for about 40 minutes. Cool trail, but pretty confusing!

Yup... map and signage in the works. Likely be next year before signage is up. Look for a updated map in the next couple of weeks.
Did you ride out of the lower lot. We didn't see you and we had the "discussion group" going until 8:30 at the rec. center parking lot?

We rode out of the big lot right next to the soccer fields. I think we got off the trail around 7:45.
Huh?!? Not sure how we missed you. Oh well hope you had a good ride.
