CAMBA is really building some great new singletrack! I was able to finally ride the trails from the Hatchery Creek to Mosquito Brook and they were awesome! The trail is currently an 11 mile loop that links up the Hatchery Creek Trailhead (About 2 miles east of New Moon Cyclery in Hayward) and the Mosquito Brook trailhead to the north. I was very impressed with it. It is now one of my favorite CAMBA trails. I think it has the best flow of any of the CAMBA singletrack, plus they've thrown in a few technical features to boot. There are also some great views from the ridge sides. The CAMBA guys have always been good trail builders, but they are really raising the bar. Their trail designs continue to evolve and I can't wait to see what their future work looks like! They are becoming trail artisans in my opinion!

The exciting thing is that this is a work in progress. They already have completed an additional mile of trail north of Mosquito Brook with a goal of singletrack all the way to OO near Seeley. Their ultimate goal is to have one continuous singletrack trail from Hayward to Cable. That would be awesome! Please check this trail out, it is a lot of fun!

My CAMBA rankings are as follows:

1. Rock Lake/Namekogan
2. Hatchery Creek
3. Ojibwe

All are great trails. Great job CAMBA!

I also rode the trail today with my family - great trail that rivals most anything in the Midwest and easy access from Hayward or on the way home from Cable. Has some similarities to the new Murphy Trail with a few more roots and rocks - great fun...

One of the things I liked about it was the location. It's the perfect trail to hit on the way to Rock Lake or on the way back. It is really convenient and probably a good half hour closer to the Twin Cities

Sugarbush is another fairly new single track in the Hayward cluster.

My wife and I are doing an overnight in Hayward next weekend for our anniversary. Might have to try and sneak away for a little bit to check out the trail.

It would be perfect for that. Only about 2-3 miles from town, and it is a quick loop, so that your wife won't even know you've gone!:D Lots of fun in 12 miles of trail!

Just an update:

The Hatchery Creek singletrack is now known as the Makwa trail. It was only given the prior name as a temporary until it was named.

Last summer, it was finished, and partially extended about 1.5 miles north of Mosquito Brook Road. This year, another 4.5 miles are to be built by our summer staff, with the end goal to be bringing the trail all the way to Highway 00 by 2009.

Thanks, and hope to see you all out there!

The Hatchery Creek trail is fantastic. We had a great ride out there this past Monday. The 1.5 miles of singletrack north of the Mosquito Brook trail head were even better! Cant wait to see that get finished. Wish i could make it out there more often!
