I'm doing the single track escape on saturday. I was curious about sundays race, though. I've never done a cx before. What would a typical course consist of?

WORK... lots of work, I had done a CX training thing a few yrs back. It was a one day thing but gave you an idea of what to expect. Put simply its singletrack, on a knobby road bike, with obstacles that you carry your bike over instead of ride over. Lots of on and off the bike. It is interesting though, you have to do it at least once in my opinion. (once was enough for me however) :D

Cyclocross is awesome. I've only done a few, but they are way harder then a mountain bike race, you can't do one without feeling like you're going to pop a lung. A CX course is usually a fairly short loop with singletrack, paved, and running sections. The singletrack won't be too technical, but it might be real twisty. They'll make you run either by sending you up short, steep hills or by putting up barriers that you have to get off and hop over.
If you like it, there is a clinic and training race every Wednesday at Boom Island.
Good luck.

Thats the one I had done is the training and then at the end we had a race. It is fun but like I said it is a lot of work. If you can handle it...I am sure it will keep in the best of shape of all cycling because of the variety you get.

The CX race is held at Riverside Park and the terrain will be mostly grass with a short paved section. There are a few short steep hills to grind up (no problem on a mountain bike) and a few barracades to carry your bike over. The races are short (C is 30 min) but fast.
Don't forget the best part, grilled pork chops, chili cook off and beverages!
Prizes for for "best of both" for top places in saturdays and sundays events so come do both.

Hey Barry, what did you think of CX? This was my first real race in a long time and it was even harder than I remember. I'm going to do a little running this week and put some faster/lighter tires on and try again next week at Orono.
