-Was out at Hartley yesterday and WOW!!! The guys doing the trail-work...Outstanding! Had an opportunity to ride about three hours and I think was able to ride damn near every trail. Found a section with a blue bowl nailed to a tree...sweet. You can really see where the trail work is being done. Anyway Hartley is in great riding condition, get out and ride. Peace.:etard:

thanks but it's just 3 bridges and 1 longer boardwalk. won't make any difference until it rains.

What is the deal with the ski trails? Can we ride them at Hartley? I've heard that officially we are not allowed, but I see that everybody does, and when I rode them I saw signs on smaller trails branching off the ski trails that say "no bikes on this trail" which gives the impression that bikes are allowed on the ski trails but not on the smaller trails branching off the ski trails. I like the ski trails because they are wide, mostly smooth, fast and relatively safe. I like singletrack, but I'm getting older and don't want to do roads. I'm pretty new to Duluth, but it seems most of the mountain biking around here is technical singletrack, which is great, but it would be nice to have some wide doubletrack type stuff as well.

the ski trails in hartley are closed to bikes. not everybody rides the ski trails. i don't, my friends don't.

stay off the ski trails in hartley.

the a-c loops on the lester park ski trails are open to bikes.

don't ride the ski trails in lester when they're wet.

as you're pretty new to duluth and have many questions regarding trail usage, why not email/pm me w/ your questions before you head out to ride something that you heard is closed to find out the true status on that trail. that would save both of us alot of time.

Actually, I heard they were closed and was not going to ride them but since the trails are so poorly marked I ended up on the ski trails anyway. I don't go out and ride trails that I hear are closed. My inquisition in this forum was an attempt to find the truth. How about posting signs saying the ski trails are closed to mountain bikers and not signs along the trails that branch of the ski trails saying these smaller trails are closed to bikes? :crazy2:

There needs to be signs just marking the mtb trails also. I never know what trail I'm on:banghead:.

Kurt, whenever you are ready to do more trail work count me in. I saw some lumber still sitting in the woods and I'm not gimpy any more. Sundays work best right now since I work 9am-9pm Mon-Sat, damn kids...
