Am I blind or does the edit feature disappear x amount of time after posting? :D

I think you're right. Sometimes I can't edit...

Yeah It goes away after a little while. Kinda of irritating if you ask me.

Ditto. Seems that recently it has started going away quicker.

No settings have changed that I'm aware of. What do you remember it being set as before?

I remember always being able to re-edit your post. For instance, I wanted to edit my for sale post since something was gone, but I didn't see the 'edit' button next to the 'quote' & 'multiquote' buttons. This was, maybe, only 10 minutes after posting. It was there when I posted, however.

EDIT: It's here right now, maybe I will time how long it lasts. ;)

Interesting that it got changed. I wonder if it happened with an upgrade or something.

At any rate, perhaps the MORC Member group can be bumped up to allow longer editing times.

I like the higher standard on proofing your posts. Adds a levl of dyligince to the foreuhmz...

WAIT!

The edit button has disappeared, under 2 hours.

I just changed the timeout to one full day. That be enough for everyone?

I'd think that would let people get back and edit mistakes. Updates can always be done as additional posts (i.e. reply to yourself)

Sometimes I want to edit race results, which may take a few days for someone to notice the error, it would be nice to be able to do so later. The drawback of not being able to edit, is that people going through the thread will come across incorrect results and not know it until they get the the one post in the thread that corrects it. Is there any reason not to have it edit-able forever?

My 2 cents.

People going back in time and changing their opinions in the non biking forum.
Imagine the flame wars we could have then! :)

I guess one reason might be to avoid someone going back and fully deleting what they wrote, which can confuse readers of a thread. Not everyone can delete what they wrote, but giving a person the ability to modify text would allow them to essentially do the same thing. (I've seen it happen before on other forums and can be somewhat frustrating) Don't know that we'd really have that problem here tho.

Another might be to get people to keep a history of what was said intact. It could be confusing if people go back and make major changes, especially if they have already been quoted.

Your case of editing results is one I can see needing more time to go back. Might be just as easy to copy & paste into a new post as well, depending. Its easy to quote yourself or copy/paste without losing any formatting. (I do this with the Gnome club members)

I don't realy have strong feelings one way or another but its fairly typical to have some set limit. Right now its a global limit all or none setting for everyone, its not by usergroup. (until the next minor version comes out at least)
