I'm planning on heading up to a friend's cabin up in Northern Wisconsin one of these weekends. Our plan is to head out of work early on Friday and ride
some trails in the Duluth area on our way through to the South shore. I was thinking either Spirit Mountain or the Pokegama Trail. I was considering Hartley, but I'm worried that it may be too far out of the way if we're heading east to "sconni".

Any help anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated.

pokegama is 4 miles long-8 miles out and back.
spirit is a good leg-busting ride and the race arrows might still be up. which means you could find your way around.
hartley and the eastern trails are nice, can be a big loop.

you've driven this far, what's another 15 minutes off the freeway to hartley...

you decide which trail you wanna ride, let me know. i'll ride trails 2 & 3 w/ you...

Kurt, thanks for the tour of Hartley last Friday, we had a great time. Well I guess my buddy that broke his chain and smashed his knee didn't enjoy himself too much, but the rest of us did. You have some very technical and challenging singletrack up there, good job with all that. I'm sure we'll head up there again on our next trip up North.

For anyone from down here in the metro that hasn't been up there, it's some good stuff. It's a fairly small amount of trails, but it can been ridden both directions and looped over itself to make for at least 6 or 7 miles of riding. There are a couple steep climbs and a lot of very technical sections. The biggest difference over the stuff here in the metro is that it's not as manicured and there are a lot of roots and rocks to stumble over. Which isn't a bad thing at all, it adds to the challenge of it.

Thanks again Kurt and I look forward to riding with you again another day.
