Anyone one else ever had the incident of ever almost colliding with deer on the trail? I came around this blind turn and BAM! 4-5 feet on front of me a deer standing in the trail, I stopped and it stood there dor a second then ran away. and less than 5 min later around another blind turn, same deer standing in the trail. This time I could have petted if I wasn't so startled.

I almost ran over a turkey at Leb once! I was so surprised I almost fell off the bike. I have seen a lot of deer reall close to me on the sides of the trail, but I dont think I ride fast enough that I could ever actually hit one:)

at Terrace Oaks there has been more times than I can count where coming around a corner only to find myself in the middle as a group has split to both sides of the trail.

Taking it to ramming speed!
I recall a MORCer t-boning a deer a Theo on a night ride some time ago.

I've been awful close to multiple deer at night at Theo as well. Kinda wakes you up when you turn your head (with helmet light) to look around the corner you are just entering, and there's a couple deer staring at you. You are not alone when riding at Theo, no matter how secluded it seems in the dark by yourself.

The deer there are tame. I think that it is a game for them to run up to another spot in the trail after you first see them...

I almost rear-ended one @ Battle Creek a couple years ago. I was accelerating with my head down, and didn't notice the beast, until it was almost too late. That would have been an interesting story for the doctors in the ER. Probably would have been worse for the deer though.

almost colliding with deer
The big bucks at Wirth won't even move for you in the late fall.
There was a rafter of wild turkeys at the Bottoms Ferry Bridge entrance last weekend. 50-60 of them.

Man a lot of animal encounters around...I thought it was really wierd but then again I haven't done a heck of a lot of biking until this year. About a month ago when I was up at Mil Lacs I almost hit a deer too.

weird how there are animals on these trails through the woods, eh? :)
i love seeing animals on the trail.
early morning rides at leb usually present turkeys and geese. we had a few running down the trail in front of us for a good 50 yards one time. i swear i saw one catch some air on a jump on dream II :)
we frequently see deer on evening rides at river bottoms. just wait until you do a night ride at river bottoms, there's an owl on the east side that likes to play games with us :)

Wirth also. They swoop near your light and then head up trail and watch you approach, then do it again. I saw a snowy there about 6-7? years ago.
I think this is why one of the sections at Theo is called Whitetail. It was delicious. When we found it it was still wet from birth.

Yes, Hillside has had those deer for years. I've come up on them, stopped, and they still didn't care. They just kept on eating. Kind of nice wildlife..

I come around a corner almost once a week at Leb and almost hit a deer. Usually in the early evening. My thoughts every time are "My that is a big dog." It happens enought that you would think that I would start recognizing them as deer.
Very cool though.

I see a deer nearly every time I am riding at the Jail Trail in St. Cloud. What's even freakier is, they allow some archery hunting in the park (I have no idea if it is professional cullers or if they let any yahoo of the street do it), but it wakes you up to ride within 10 feet of a archer in camo up in a tree with his bow drawn. Needless to say, I wear bright colors there in the fall!

Well it's cool to know that the wildlife on a lot of these trails are so calm around people. It's something to ookforward too (and look out for) everytime I go out.
