The International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) will once again offer great prizes for clubs and families that participate in Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day (http://www.imba.com/resources/kids/index.html). This yearıs event will be held on Oct. 6, 2007. Anyone can participate, but only registered events are eligible for the prizes. Sign up soon -- the big day is just around the corner.
In 2006, IMBA's Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day celebration (http://www.imba.com/news/news_releases/10_06/10_30_kid_mtb_day.html) helped more than 3,000 young riders enjoy an outdoor bicycle excursion. Events were held in Australia, Canada, Italy, Mexico, Japan and the United States. We're hoping to make the 2007 edition of Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day an even bigger success!
Great Prizes on Tap
Longtime IMBA supporter Schwinn (http://www.schwinnbike.com/) will once again offer kidıs bikes to registered groups. Ten bikes will be awarded to clubs, families and other groups who participate in the rides.
All clubs and individuals who register by Sept. 21 will also receive a "Snacks on Us" shipment of Organic Twisted Fruit and Z-BaRs (http://www.clifbar.com/eat/eat.cfm?location=zbar), healthy, kid-friendly energy foods made by our friends at CLIF Bar.
Organize and Register a Ride
Organizing an event (http://www.imba.com/resources/kids/10_tips.html) is easy. Any group size is okay, and the rides can be as extensive or as low-key as event planners like. Just find some kids, get permission from their parents, take 'em on a fun ride, and bring 'em back when you're done!
Don't forget to register (http://go.imba.com/site/Survey?ACTION_REQUIRED=URI_ACTION_USER_REQUESTS&SURVEY_ID=1760) your ride. Only registered rides are eligible for prizes.
Need help finding enough kids, or bikes, for an event? Contact Trips for Kids (http://www.tripsforkids.org/national/index.htm), a remarkable non-profit organization that has been helping disadvantaged kids discover mountain biking since 1988.
More About the Celebration
National Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day celebrates the life of Jack Doub, an avid teenage mountain biker from North Carolina who passed away in 2002. The Jack Doub Memorial Endowment provides funding for a nationwide celebration that occurs each year on the first Saturday in October.
We hope you'll consider planning a ride in a National Park Service (NPS) park this year. As part of the NPS Centennial Initiative (http://www.nps.gov/2016/), IMBA is helping devise new programs that will introduce kids to the wonders of America's most scenic parks through mountain biking. Check with your local NPS park to find out if a ride is appropriate. IMBA maintains a list of NPS parks that allow riding on dirt roads (http://www.imba.com/resources/agencies/nps_dirt_roads.html) or trails (http://www.imba.com/resources/agencies/nps_dirt_trails.html).
About Schwinn: Founded in 1895, Schwinn is an American icon that has been synonymous with quality and innovation. They've built some of the best-known and best-loved bikes of numerous generations -- Aerocycle, Paramount, Phantom, Varsity, Sting-Ray, Krate and Homegrown. Today, Schwinn continues to lead the industry with innovative bike designs.
About CLIF: Clif Z-BaR is an organic, baked whole grain energy bar filled with nutrients that growing bodies need without the unnecessary fat and sugar. Thanks for your part in helping to get more kids riding and eating healthy!
