On Aug. 20, Trek Bicycles (http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/) president John Burke introduced "One World, Two Wheels (http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/company/one_world_two_wheels)," an ambitious advocacy program. Trek will donate $10 for every full-suspension bike sold to IMBA, for a minimum of $600,000 over the next three years. Trek also will donate $1 per helmet to the Bicycle Friendly Communities (http://www.bikeleague.org/programs/communities/), for a minimum of $1 million over the next three years.
"Trek has been a longtime IMBA supporter, but the One World, Two Wheels initiative is a dramatic step forward for IMBA, and for the sport. This robust level of commitment will us to double the amount of new singletrack that IMBA designs and builds over the next three years," said Mike Van Abel, IMBA's executive director. Trail Solutions, (http://www.imba.com/trailsolutions/index.html) IMBA's professional trail design and trailbuilding arm, will receive an infusion of capital support from the Trek funds, according to Van Abel.
Jenn Dice, IMBA's goverment affairs director, was also on hand for Burke's address, made during the annual "Trek World" gathering of retail dealers. Said Dice, "The response from Trek's dealers was amazing. Several of them approached IMBA staff immediately after the speach and pledged that their shops would match Trek's donation."
Dave Hanson, owner of six Jax Bicycle (http://www.jaxbicycles.com/) shops in Southern California, is one of the dealers who intends to match Trek's advocacy initiative. "How could I not? It's the right thing to do, and the right time to do it," said Hanson. "It's incredible that Trek will spend its money and resources for the greater good. My stores will contribute to the bicycling community in the same fashion that Trek does."
