Mammoth Trail - Peninsula Loop

I know they have been there awhile, but does anyone know who posted the yellow, "Trail Closed - Wildlife Nesting Area" signs on the Peninsula Loop?

I assume the signs are in reference to the hawks (or eagles?) nest on the man-made shelf that I passed by some time ago. Is this a real concern at this time? Or do the signs just appeal to my gullible, tree-hugging nature?

I guess they are osprey. If you do a serch on mammoth, this came up in the spring and blew up into a huge thread. My take away from that was, to not ride the full pinninsula loop in spring so as not to end up being dive bombed by the osprey. I started riding the full look in I think, mid june. Have had no problems with them to date.
