Are there certain trails that are or are not open over the winter?
From now until Spring are there times that we are not supposed to ride(besides if it is raining, melting or generally mushy)?

Winter is for skiing not biking! :nono: Bikes hang from the garage ceiling and the boards get waxed and ready to go...

No no no no no no no... winter is actually the best time to bike! Stud up those tires and join us out at Leb... you can still ski/snowboard (although why would you in MN) but biking in the winter is really something to experience.

There are a few trails that allow it, and even less that can sustain it because they need to be packed down and maintained. Leb, River Bottoms are two that seem to get enough traffic to stay open. Salem stays open for a while. Wirth I think is open part of the winter.

Conditions tend to not be too bad in the fall for trails.. there are a few weeks each fall when we start to get a freeze/thaw cycle that gets nasty for the trail but we will manage closing the trail during those periods. Otherwise we try keep the trail open as much as we can.

In the spring there are a few months when most trails are closed down and fenced up.. lets not think about that yet ;)

Just a reminder. Battle Creek is NOT open once we have snow. The trails are groomed for XC skiing there.

The Theo Wirth trails are open all winter as long as the ground is frozen and there's no special events going on.

I'm doing some research for an article, please post up any trails around the state that are open to winter riding.

So far I have:
Leb
Theo
Salem
River Bottoms
Hartley Trails

Thanks

I think we need a MORC ski/snowboard day/night at Welch this year. :)

Theo is great in the winter. I think I like it better in the winter than the rest of the riding season.
