I'm in!

I'll be showing up Friday afternoon/evening and am riding with a coed ss team.

I'll call this a successful race if I manage to not endo flat onto my back on the rocks every. freakin'. lap. :hit:

For racing or riding, Nine Mile is a great place to be on a bicycle.

some of those rock gardens are very tough!!! i know your pain.

They're fun and challenging to ride on a normal, group ride day. During a race and after it had rained a ton, they become evil death.

I am waiting for the weather folks to announce that our dry spell will be ending this Friday evening. ;)

How does this course compare to afton for 24 hour races? other than Length where this one is longer per lap... what about climbing, technical downhill... (rock gardens obviously)

Any insight would be much appreciated... this is the first year we have participated in this one! Thanks!!!

Compared to Afton, this is cake. I don't remember any really tough climbs, although they certainly seemed bigger the more tired I was. It looks like they may have changed the course for this year, though, so it could be anything. The website says 715 feet of climbing per lap. I wonder if they take us up the Ho Chi Mihn trail? That could be interesting at two am. :D

I started out last year running 32x17, the gear I normally run at Theo. When I started getting tired, I switched to 32x18 and spun rather than mashed.

Endos aside, I had a really good time at the race last year. It's a friendly place.

The website says 715 feet of climbing per lap.

Now that we have a fancy new computer I can tell people that Leb (with x, xx, and new exit out) and Murphy (w/ advanced loop) are just over 600 feet of climbing per lap.

Yes, but this is seven hundred feet over fourteen miles, so the climbing should still be significantly easier than Leb or Murphy overall.

Looks like we do get to climb a small portion of the Ho Chi Mihn trail, but nowhere near the whole thing.

This takes a bit to load, at least on my computer. Blue line is the course and the red lines are the fun bits ( singletrack. )

We are trying to build a 4 person team for 24-9. 2 people are confirmed. 1 is tentative (<50 %). We will need 1 or 2 people. We will know by Wednesday afternoon if we need one or two. Any interest out there?

Hello all,
i was searching through threads, and see a lot of you have done this race in the past.
it looks like a really fun event!!
can some of you who've done it give me the pros, and cons (if any)??
i've done 24 hour events in the past, and am thinking about doing another this summer.
Thank you for your time!!!

Peace,
Joe

It is a great event and course! The rock gardens can be brutal in the dark, very abusive to the body!!! The course starts out fairly flat, however in the middle of the night a bunch of gnomes build hills right in the middle of the trail. Seriously though, I have done this race 5 years in a row and consider it one of the highlights of my year.
