Rode Murphy tonight, it was in awesome shape.
I turned two 50 minute laps for 1:40:00. That's all of the beginner, intermediate and advanced, including the rock loop (option), split rock, and the log ride.

Anyone else have times for two laps?

Not bad! I think my last time was 57min for all 3 trails together but I like to do the log ride a few times :)

I think I usually run about an hour, but I can't remember the last time I completed a full lap without stopping and working on the trail at least once.

I also want to point out that faster riders should pass slower riders by politely asking to pass. Even if you are comfortable passing someone at a particular spot, they might not be. Be considerate of other riders, and let them pull over where they feel comfortable stopping.

The new Murphy-Hanrehan trail isn't a race course, and shouldn't be treated as one except during sanctioned races. Speaking of which...

For those riders that are interested in a race experience at Murphy:

The 1st Wednesday Night Murphy race is scheduled for Aug. 22nd at 6:30pm - more info to come as we get it.

Thanks!!

I do, but it's for 2 riders with a combined age of 134 years, and I won't divulge it.:D

I loosely remember about an hour for a lap, but like others I wasn't really timing myself and probably rode the log a few times (or waited up for others riding the log). Now I have a time to shoot for.

First lap of 49 minutes and a second one of 50 trying to catch up after a late start on a group ride.

I was wondering if anyone had started up this thread yet.

51:40 for a lunch lap. I wasn't pushing as hard as I could because I was contemplating two advanced laps but decided I should get back to work instead.

I predict someone out there will post a sub 40 minute lap this year. I'll shoot for 45, personally!

It's kinda like seeing how fast you can run accross the tightrope in a few areas :) Murphy is a place where you really have to pay attention. I'd think anything under 45:00 would have to be a damn good biker.

54:38 with 4 runs over the log ride tonight.

49:19!

Yeah, a 45 minute lap would be impressive. I still feel it's possible for me but I'd have to put a lot more pressure on myself to do it.

I'm still waiting for someone to post a -40:00 time. I know there are riders out there capable of it!

Gave it a try tonight. 1 lap (Everything but the LOD, I'm still not quite ready for that).

Perfect trail conditions. Started out way too fast and was nearly hyperventilating 1/2 way through the beginner loop. Felt a sharp pain on my left knee cap just before entering the Int. loop. Looked down just in time to see a bee get done stinging me. :scream: Not off to a good start, although the adrenaline did start flowing.

Ended up at 49:40 dead tired and with a knee that wouldn't stop itching. Does it matter that I felt like I was going faster? Someone else is going to have break the 40 barrier. I don't think I have a spare 9:40 in me.

P.S. Good job to the trail crew on the new bermed switchback downhill turns in the woods in the advanced loop. Very nice.

Wow...I really suck!!!:cryin: I consistently turn in 1:07:00 and 1:09:00 for 1 lap...at least I'm consistent though:D

Chris, I like your optimism, but I don't believe anyone will come close to breaking 40 min. I say a race-winning time of around 45 min.

A buddy of mine did 2 laps in 1:25 including stopping to chat on both laps. He was going fast, but not all out. I think sub 40s are going to happen at the TT.

I hope 3 Rivers lets us ride in the winter. Then, simply finishing a lap will be a good lap time...40 minutes is fast...

I just did 1:34:29 for two laps. My 2nd lap was actually 1:21 faster than my first: 47:55 and 46:34 (woo!!!) respectively (assuming my math doesn't suck ... which it usually does).

Yeah, based on your friends time, it looks like sub 40 is what winning TT times will be. I was first basing my sub 40 minute prediction off of what winning times are usually in comparison to mine. I scored 27 minute laps at the Leb TT and the winner had right around 23 minute laps!

See previous post. The winner of the Leb TT was about 4 minutes faster than me per lap with a final time of 23 minutes a lap. Percentage-wise, if someone of the Brendan Moore (http://www.bentcrankracing.com/images/library/File/2007-lebtt-results.htm) level does the TTs at Murphy they should be able to break 40 no problem. Hmm ... maybe we should be asking if someone can have a time close to :35?

I'm just giddy that I'm about a minute and a half from :45 after this afternoon. :etard:

If the race starts/finishes at the staging area (across the road from the parking lot), and it requires taking rock section (the one optional area that I'm aware of, at about 1/3 of the way through the expert loop), and someone goes sub-40 minutes, I hereby solemnly swear to pay for their entry fee at one Thurs. Buck Hill race next season (2008).

You're lucky that Tommer races for free at buck. It'll save you $10. He pulled off 39:40 for a winning time last night. WOW! And by the way, you were 3rd with a time of just over 42:00. Good job!

John Sandberg

Tom scorched the course, fire feeding through his legs and smoke blowing out of his...well...you get the picture. He obviously went faster than human beings were meant to ride.

I saw 23 empty cans of Red Bull, 4 cans of Monster and 3 Jolt empties fall out of his car when he opened the door prior to the race. Hmmm. Three Rivers made him pee in a cup, and they took a blood sample.

I haven't seen official times and didn't stick around after the race, so I must accept the times you're telling me Guse (name rhymes with "floozy").

Tom didn't ride the Rock Garden (neither did I), but he still would have run under 40. Hell, I heard that on one of the two downed trees (that required cross skills), he did a quick bottom bracket overhaul. The guy was on fire!

Clearly I should quit making predictions, but since it's true that Tom gets freebies at Buck, I will give a free entry to everyone else who competed that night, in honor of him making a mockery of my delusional pre-race throw-down.

Wait. That doesn't make sense. Scratch that.

How about this: If someone beats Tom's time next week, I'll give them a black, wool, long sleeve (Large) Salsa jersey that I won at a race a few years ago, but have never worn (only lycra for me, baby!). Plus, I'll buy them a hamburger at a Buck race next year. That's got to be a $50 prize. The hamburger alone cost $25 (don't get me started about the food prices there...just know that Penn has NOTHING to do with it).

Only official times at the race because the "my-friend-rode-two-laps-in under-one-hour-and-even-took-a-short-nap" stories don't cut it with me. I need hard data (and confirmation of both the A and B samples post race).

As of now, Tom Miller is King of Murphy.

Wow. Sub-40 is nuts.

How about the optional rock climb? Or the two optional rocks after 70 and 72?

Ditto that, I stopped by for my first try at the whole thing and rode with three locals. We estimated it took us from 45-55 minutes to do it (and me on the SS, huff, huff). Not that it matters, it was just fun. Not sure I have two laps in me on the SS though:hit:

PS: Oh yeah , "I'm still recovering from Afton!"

Not including the rock climb. I rode both the rocks...I think they are actually faster to ride over than go around.:)

Did a 53:20 AFTER 4hrs of trail work yesterday, only 1 min slower than my fastest time :metal: skipped the rock climb but did a couple runs on the log ride. The goal is to be in the 40's by the end of the month.

Hiya. As much as I've been on all of the other mountain bike trails in the
Twin Cities I never managed to make it to M-H as it was always closed or
something prevented me from getting there. Until Sunday.

Here's the GPS data:
http://bimactive.com/ba/journal/post/4941/7672

Time: 1 hr, 51 minutes for all legs of the trail.

I typically take trails the first time at a slower than usual pace.
And, I think I took it even slower than I normally would.

I also doubled back at one point to help a woman whose
bike had a mechanical. I heard a startled yell behind me
and I doubled back to check it out - her husband and son
were already over the horizon and it was just easier to fix
it myself.

Luckily it was just that she'd thrown a chain but she was on
an incline next to a steep drop and she wasn't clear on how
to re-mount the chain so I just did it.

After that it was smooth sailing.

Don't be surprised if you start lopping minutes off THAT time now that you've hit it. :) I scored a 44:40 (according to my watch) at the last TT Sep. 5!

I think a 2nd sub-45 time for me is only possible in another race setting. I just don't push myself quite as hard otherwise. So, based on your current time, sounds like we're actually about evenly matched for speed!
