Howdy. The west side of Amity River has some excellent singletrack. Let's make these trails official. Anyone on board?

Thank you Mr. Lange. Do you have any specifics about the process of making trails "official" in Duluth and Amity-Lester?

been a few years since i've been home, can you refresh my memory and tell me where amity is and is there singletrack? Is that out by lester river and if not i remember hiking on trails along the river, are they rideable and are they legal to ride?
Thanks in advance. Coming home for a visit in august and just looking for all the trails around Duluth, already heard about spirit mtn and hartley. Where are all the races held at? What about the one in superior, pogomen or whatever it's called, is that any good? The couple of things i have read/heard it looks more or less like a short straight trail..............Thanks again...Jim
P.S. anyone interested in hooking up for some riding email me at jfeiro3@gmail.com. Leaving Salt Lake on Aug. 17 and should be in town the 19th-20th and will be there for the week........

Your timing's good.
The Powder Monkey race is Sunday the 19th at Spirit Mountain. http://www.mnscs.com/page/show/4835 There are a whole range of race options. Most importantly, the T-shirts are always good. Even if you don't race come on out and enjoy.
Local bike shop Ski Hut has a mountain bike ride every Monday, 6pm, weather permitting. Call the shop that day {218-724-8525}, ask where the day's ride is and ask for directions.
6pm Tuesday is the COGGS ride at Mont du Lac. $5 to ride till dark. Join COGGS for $20 and you get a sweet XC ski beanie. http://www.coggs.com/ for directions. It's an outdated site but the info is still valid.

Jim. There might be some really awesome singletrack in the two valleys of Amity and Lester rivers, but I can't tell you because it's a secret.

To all Duluth bikers,
A long time ago (1988) I had the pleasure to ride in the CHESTER TESTER mtn bike race. Now being from 'da UP of Michigan, Duluth was a BIG CITY! I honestly don't know where I was in Duluth but I want to think Chester Park (yes, I did manage to get my high school diploma).
Now, many years later I don't see biking as a designated use for trails at Chester Park (based on web findings). Now I'd cruise right down to the park to look at what the signs say there, if it was a little less than 1200 miles away from my present location.
So who can help me find out where I was riding? Is riding currently allowed at Chester? And is biking currently allowed on all trails in Lester Park/Amity areas or do you have to poach them (I'd never do that!).

There's really nothing at Chester other than the hiking trail which is off limits to bikes. However, Lester and Amity have all kinds of good stuff. Nothing's really "official", though. You just kinda have to go ride and explore. I've heard this and that about whether or not you can ride there or will be able to ride there in the future and I don't really know (or care). I just go ride whatever trails I find and be respectable if I encounter hikers or anyone else. I've had very few bad experiences with people while biking as long as I remember have the right attitude at the time. For Amity, look at the far East end of Skyline parkway. That's all the directions you need, really. There is no marked trailhead but, you'll find it pretty easily.
