View Full Version : Another Triathlon n00b
Didn't want to hijack Shad's thread, but wanted to say I did the Waconia Tri yesterday. It was Sa-weet!!
Made it under my target time by three seconds. Everything went off without a hitch except I forgot my bike helmet and ran with it on.
But, its a lot of fun. There was one guy who did it that is 83 years old and several in their 70s. I even enjoyed the open water swim, thats the part that intimidates the most people.
I think its an advantage to come from a bike background.

you didn't mention you forgot to take off your lid when you were talking to me last night. Thats pretty awesome matt. Heh
Oh yeah,
Got told right after I left transition, figured it would take more time/screw up the chip timing if I went back. So, I ran with it.
One guy informed me that it wasn't supposed to hail, after I was told the third time "You forgot to take off your helmet!" I replied, "yep, safety first."
But, you can get penalized for abandoning equipment on the course, so I figured roll with it.
Luckily my mom got pictures of me running with a helmet, so it can be scrapbooked about.

Ben says the two of you are doing the Square Lake tri? Looks like we'll have a good MORC showing as my wife and I will also be out there doing it as our first Tri. I'm shooting to finish before it is dark out.

Funny!
You probably would have gotten more comments if people weren't afraid they would offend the "special" guy.

Ben emailed me, told me you're in. If he doesn't leak out it'll be sweet.:p
Mountain Bikers in the tri.
Again, if you're worried about using a stained sleeveless mountain bike jersey as a tri jersey and having people find out you're not hardcore, just run with your helmet on and no one will notice your jersey.

I couldn't believe you let me leak out on you so easy earlier this year.

That is awesome... I saw you run by me!!!! (assuming that you were the only one that ran with their helmet on... :D)
It was my first ever triathlon as well... did a duathlon early this year and loved it! This was even better. Finished under my target time, but I am large and fat, so my target was a slow 2:30! ;) came in at 2:19:03, with biking being my best showing, followed by the swim and the running killed me. I was the fat guy you passed in the first mile of the run!
Congrats on meeting your goal!

Congratulations, gentlemen!
I hope you've made it out of the "duck walk so I don't have to move my calf muscles" stage.
I'm sore from swimming, yesterday was abs and shoulders, today just shoulders. I also am tired. sleep 9 hrs. last night and had a real slow bike commute today.
But thanks, congrats on your race too.

Only drank one beer last night. It was to hot to go to the basement to get another one.

Same for me, today was shoulders... I did a long slow swim yesterday to stretch out... (and I mean slow... I am slow to begin with, and then add slow to that!)
I am hooked on this thing though!! Can't wait for round 2... doing the Lifetime Olympic distance in a few weeks... that one will be a much longer recovery...
