Backcountry Patrollers Rose A. and Tommy R. have been active up on the Chippewa NF. Rose says both Simpson Creek and Suomi Hills are open, ridable and in very good condition. When she rode those areas last weekend, the deerflies weren't out yet and the D-J trunk trail was not overgrown. All trails are clear and the singletrack is in good shape. Call the US Forest Service office in Deer River (218) 246-9743 or go to http://www.fs.fed.us/r9/forests/chippewa/ for more information.

Rode Cut Foot and Simpson Creek on Monday...before the temperature fell off the map and the snow came. Trails are in remarkable shape....beware you need to detour at the crossing of 46 at the Laurentian Divide...there is logging going on to the east. This is still one of the better cold weather epic rides...

Will, you are SOOO hard core! I'm waxing my skis and varnishing my snowshoes, and you're out at Simpson Creek on your bike. I tip my Stetson to you! (The picture on my profile was taken at Simpson Creek.)
As for me and my house, I'm dreaming of a white Christmas!
Be safe,
