Well I am going to be selling my 2006 gary fisher opie on ebay in a few days. Everything on it works great except the rear derailleur is a little messed up and probably should be replaced. I have everything i need to convert it into a single speed. Whats your guys opinions, should i convert it to a single speed and sell, or sell it with the crappy derailleur?

I would sell it as is.. . .I think the market for a single speed is much smaller then those who would just fix the derailleur.

Or, option 3 go to the For Sale forum and see if anyone has a used rear derailer that they are willing to part with. I have to imagine you can pick one up pretty cheap as there are so many single speeders here and so many of those single speeds are converted geared bikes. Should be a lot of used derailers around somewhere.

I agree that there might be a lager market for a geared bike, but also, no one wants to buy something new that needs to be fixed right away.

Your bike will probably sell better geared and closer to factory condition and if you're willing to part with your single speed conversion gear its probably worth more than a derailer.

Another thought, Its expensive to ship bikes, try to sell it in the forums and on Craigslist first. (we need a bright idea smiley with a lightbulb above his head);)

I agree. Fix the der. then sell it. You want to make it as simple as possible for the buyer and offer to as broad of market as possible. Don't give people an excuse to offer you less or pass yours up for another one.
