that likes to take a shower before I go for a ride? I also do the same thing before I go for a run (not that I run that much...).

My wife calls it strange, but I just like to feel fresh and clean before I get all smelly and dirty. :D

Anybody else do that?

No... always after tho.

I might if I just came back from trailwork and were going to go for a ride or something... maybe...

It's weird but not that weird.

I prefer to exercise when I'm clean. Less chance of chafing and sweat dries faster. It's just more pleasant.

I can definitely see the advantages, but I doubt my lazy gene would tolerate it.

Not for me. I don't like to drink beer before I ride but I love to drink while I shower.

Females are naturally cleaner than males. It's a scientific fact. Something about the XX chromosome being more "soapy"..

Depends on how I feel. If I feel yucky, I will shower first. It's nice because then your sweat isn't super salty and sticky.

-1 for pre-ride showers.

do you shower after the ride, too? that's way too much work. my sensitive skin can only take so many washings a week, i have to allocate them very carefully :)

Yeah, two showers total.

And anyways... that's why they invented moisturizing body lotion! :p
How's that for getting in touch with my feminine side? At least it's not scented...

What a colossal waste of water, energy (water heating), and money.

Do the earth, our energy resources, and your pocket book a favor and just take one shower afterwards.

A little dirt never hurt anyone, makes you and your immune system tougher.

This reminds me of some of the more "fragrant" riders I encountered on the greenway Sunday...Smelled them before I saw them...

Weekly showers please! or at least a quick swim in the lake!

Colossal? Let's not get too dramatic here.

See, the issue for me is that sometimes, if I don't do it, my whole body starts to itch like mad when I go out running or biking. And it's completely random when it does happen, but it happens when I've showered before the ride.

We're probably getting a little too into my showering and personal hygiene here, but this doesn't mean I shower three times a day. I work at home now, so I don't typically shower first thing in the morning anymore. I just do it either A. right before I ride, or B. before I leave the house. Heck... if I don't get too nasty during a ride, sometimes I don't even shower afterwards :p

I was thinking more of a ride on a cool October day than one on a 95 degree July scorcher.

Spend a week in Moab without showering, wearing the same pair chamois. Can you say STOKED

What about 2 a days, do you shower before and after each session? If so that could add up to a ton of time in the shower.

No, that would probably just be three showers then, even if there was some time between shower #2 and ride #2.

The only time I would shower before a ride is if the ride was early morning. I shower before charity rides. My wife thinks it is strange. But, it wakes me up, opens my eyes. After work, I wouldn't shower before a ride.

if a little dirt makes it tougher my immune system must be chuck norris. I try to shower daily but there are days when I get done working and I am shot, and I think "why shower when I will be waking up in six hours just to get dirty again right away" I guess I would have to say the same thing about pre-ride showers although if I smell real farmy and am going to ride with others I usually shower before but not if I am riding alone.

Less chance of chafing
That's big for me. Saddle sores don't come from wear and tear; they develop from bacteria. If you've never had one, consider yourself lucky. Multiple daily rides or stage races, when I raced on the road, dictated 2-3 showers a day. As for wasting, I'll post my lap times for the shower if you'd like.;)

If you cant shower and still would like to clean up....try anti bacterial wipes or baby wipes. They fit in your bag easy and are very nice to do a quick clean up - a couple wipes and a minute or two and you will notice a differnce

Fast - cheap- very easy !

Always carry them. Good for cleaning a dirty road or trail rash too.

But you were saying that I shouldn't be showering before my rides! Now you've got me confused.

And as for wipes... I'm assuming those Lysol Disinfectant kitchen and bath wipes would probably be a bad idea?

Baby's diaper remedies solve our problems, too. In addition to the wipes check out the Desitin. Chafage (i.e. chafing) be gone!

There is a difference between disinfectant and anti bacterial. If you need disinfectant then you also may need a pressure washer!

If the baby in baby wipes keeps you from using them then head to Target and pick up a plain old anti bacterial wipe. Not just for the area consealed by your shorts....face, arms, legs too if need be.
