I have been wanting to ride to work lately but I have one small problem, I live in Burnsville right at Parkway/35W and must commute to France/494 in Edina. As far as I am aware there's no way to cross the river without taking the freeway, and I don't think that's legal let alone safe.

Is there a route that I can take? and how long would you estimate this route to take? As I have to be in at work at 7:30 AM

Thanks

Can you get to the 494 crossing? Or you can ride up to the hwy 55 bridge. Once across the river, there are many of ways to get to Edina.

The Bloomington Ferry bike bridge is pretty far west, may not be an option. Its a pain to get over there, but it puts you in Eden Prairie.

Otherwise there is a dirt trail way to cross via Cedar, discussed recently in some forums.

Don't know where that Cedar bridge is but this is only based off of listed good routes...there may be shorter roads you can take:

MnDOT should hang a bike lane on Cedar, but I wondered why this old swing bridge hasn't been thought of as a bike route. It's about half way between 35 and the BFB.

Is that railway still in use? It's pretty close to Cargill, they may own it.

Supposedly there hasn't been a train on it since the 90's. It's still owned by the railroad though. If it has in fact been out of service that long they should do something like rails to trails.

If you're in Burnsville the BFB is probably a good route since you'll need to travel west to get to Edina anyway.
