I'm looking at buying a 2004 Rock Shox SID SL fork. How do these shocks perform? Anything to watch for?

What are they typically worth?

They are comparable to the sid race that is the current model. They are flexy, but if you don't weigh much or you are looking for a super light fork they are pretty reliable. Also the slippery coating on the stanchions can wear out.

well, I weigh about 220 lbs, so I'll probably keep looking then...

Bigger riders should look at a Reba, much stiffer fork. SID's do require routine service, like all forks do, but most all SID's when opened up need parts. Most common is worn out or scored rebound dampers, and worn stanchion tubes. The rebound dampers aren't too expensive, but new CSU's are pretty pricey.
