This bike is up for sale for about $400 and I have been looking at going towards full suspension. Is it worth it...should I just save up for a Specialized?
Thanks!
Bill

Trek Y3 Full Suspension Mountain Bike
This is a full-suspension, 18.5" Trek mountain bike in excellent condition. It boasts a v-brake, fox rear shock, and control tech bar ends. In addition, it has been garage-kept, is rust-free, and has low mileage. This bike has been very well taken care of and is in MINT condition!

Seems pretty over-priced for a 1996ish bike. The suspension technology is OLD. I would hold out for something newer.

Personal opinion coming (and probably a lot of flak, too).

Save your money. That "Y" bike is at least 6 years old as they quit making them in '01. The technology will be lacking compared to the Specialized and it wouldn't even be worth upgrading the frame.

And don't limit yourself to the Specialized either. There are a lot of different designs and technologies out there to sample (and confuse yourself with). Test ride a batch and get a feel. Santa Cruz makes an incredible sinlge pivot bike called the Superlight. I love mine.

I would hold off.

I assume that the descrition on the bottom of the post is from the seller. If not, sorry in advance for ripping you.

WTF is this guy selling a car? Kept in garage? Rust free? Low milage?

Figured it was too good to be true but it's just lots of info to try and make the right purchase and I don't really want to become an expert on the technology...I just want to ride!

WRONG! :) Become somewhat of an expert. It's not like buying a hardtail. FS bike all behave differently and have different purposes. It's best to pick the one that suits your riding style.

Hah hah hah! You numbah one funny guy, Joe. I refuse to ride an incomplete bike and you know it. Why don't you just leave off one chainstay, too?

I was hoping to spend more time riding than learning about gear. I will of course ride before I buy.
Thanks for the input...I think the Santa Cruz is out of my range unless I can find an older one.

Then it would be like a BMW motorcyle.

You might be surprised. What's your range?

THUMP!

Range would be 500-1000(that's why I say used probably) if I did it this summer instead of next. I know it's low but I have to keep the house payments going out!
I have a Specialized Hardrock Sport(low end front suspension) but it has nice XT components. The hardtail is just taking it's toll on my old body!

Save until next summer. Superlights can start as low as about $1100.00. This would also give you a worthy frame for ugrading piece by piece. Mine is going on 6 years old and is still going strong. Mostly original stuff on it. Plus it spent the first 3 years of it's life getting pounded on nasty trails in AZ.

You're going to get lots of recommendations. All good.

Oh yeah, I ride a hardtail and SS, too. Age don't mean a thing. Ask Stoneage, Mr. Rigid SS rider.
