Don't forget that we are meeting for a ride at eastwood tomorrow at 6. I could be there earlier if anyone wants to ride at like 5:30.

I could use some directions to the trails at Eastwood...

gpzrider
05-02-2007, 11:58 AM
To get there, take Hwy 14 east through Cub foods/Marion Road intersection and continue until the stop light by rctc. Go throught the stop light and about 1/4 mile past that take a right into the parking lot (first right after the stop light I believe).

Let me know if you need more detailed directions.

I'll have to check those trails out next time I go down and visit my sister. I am guessing these are 'rogue' trails?

Matthew
05-03-2007, 10:10 AM
Nope these are all legal, city approved trails. If you go on the Rasc-mn website you can click on mountain biking and get directions as well as trail maps.

Sorry I missed the ride yesterday. I had to deliver a motorcycle to the cities.

She's officially gone. :cryin: Oh well, on to the new addiction.....mtnbiking!!!!

See you guys next Thursday.

AndrewMay
05-05-2007, 07:04 AM

zaskar

I am planning on making it this time. Never ridden Steeplechase so I'm excited to see it.

Still shooting for 6pm? Park at the chalet?

gpzrider
05-08-2007, 04:04 PM
Time is 6:00pm. Meet by the chalet. Remember your 5 bucks and to leave time to fill out the release form (would like to be riding by 6:05).

I'd really like to come but have softball on thursdays now. Would anyone want to ride on Wednesdays instead?

I hate to ask to change things on my account, just wanted to see if there is a different night that works better for some people.

zaskar

Andy,

I'd ride tonight if you wanted. Let me know a time and place.

Hey, Here's my story. Years ago I did some mtn biking. Then I got all caught up in rock climbing. I haven't climbed in a couple years and I need an extreme sport. I've just now got back into mtn biking. I was out yesterday at Mayowood on some of those trails. I'd like to get in on some weekly rides, but Thursdays won't work for me either. Wednesdays might be best with my schedule, (with the exception of tonight). I'll check back on this post and hope to meet up with you guys one of these weeks. Thanks, Tom

Brian,
I would be up for a little ride at Eastwood at 615.

zaskar
05-09-2007, 03:50 PM
Andy, something came up and I'm not positive I could make it by 6:15. I have to get this stuff done today otherwise I'd put it off until Friday.

If you want you could give me a call around 6pm and see if I can make it.

AndrewMay
05-09-2007, 03:53 PM
Right on.
I think I'm still going to go. I'll wait until 620 and if you dont make it we can try again next week.

zaskar
05-09-2007, 03:58 PM
Wednesdays are usually open so yeah, if not this week then next week for sure.

Is there ever a time when groups ride steeplechase on a saturday or sunday?

FarmerBEN
05-09-2007, 09:15 PM
I would be game for a weekend group ride, even a 7ish on friday night would work pretty good, that would give me a good excuse to stop at leo's for fish fry on my way home.

Jeff R

Hey all...I've missed the first two group rides and will likely miss tomorrow night as well, but definitely want to get in on some. My schedule is a lot lighter after this weekend. I rode Steeplechase yesterday and it's in great shape...One idea for this Saturday is a work & ride - We need to finish cutting our lower river loop single track before the race on June 3rd and could use some help if any of you are interested. Meet at 8:30 on top by the green shed. Bring boots, gloves, and water...and your bike for a ride after!

Matthew
05-10-2007, 07:52 AM
I am still planning on riding at 6 tonight so if you can show up that would be great. I think there will have to be weekend group rides immediately following trail work on saturdays. So show up for trail work and then stick around for the group ride afterwards.

Hey thanks Matthew for keeping the group rides going! We had 7 people show up last night, some of us even found a few beers.

I think a weekend ride would be fun, maybe sometime in the evening? I normally lead group road rides in the mornings on Saturday and Sunday, but I need to get more time on my mountain bike!

Matthew
05-11-2007, 06:33 AM
Yep good ride everyone. Where are we riding next week?

gpzrider
05-11-2007, 09:41 AM
Hawthorne?

zaskar

I'd like to thank everyone for a great ride last night. Lots of fun and a good workout too.

Steeplechase is a great trail. Thank you to everyone that has put time into making that such a fun place to ride!!

Thanks for the refreshments Dave. I thought about bringing a few but wasn't sure it was good practice. One cold brew sure tastes good after a nice ride.

Dhallaway
05-11-2007, 06:54 PM
[laughing] I think it's probably not a good practice to do a lot of drinking, but a beer after we're done riding shouldn't upset anyone... I hope!

I'll vote for either Steeplechase or Hawthorn next week.

What night is this again? I'll try to get the Red Wing crew down there.

FarmerBEN
05-11-2007, 08:37 PM
they stole our thursday nights, are you going on the 19th gus? you should get a group together for that and caravan over, I mentioned it to a few of the others on facebook, but most of the crew aren't into that, if you would let a few people know that would be a great local day trip.

Yea hopefully I might be taking my nephew down there. I guess they would rather ride some boring gravel roads again. Whatever.

Jeff R. and I were just out to Steeplchase tonight. Perfect night for riding! Jeff gave me a ride for my money. He's a pretty good trail guide. I'm looking to get out there again soon. Tom

So, is it going to be Hawthorne or Steeplechase this Thursday? I haven't been out to Hawthorne, so don't know what condition it is in currently.

I vote for Hawthorne if it is in decent condition.

ctommyrun
05-14-2007, 03:25 PM
I can do Hawthorne if it is early enough. I'm off work all day but need to be some where at 6:30. Tom

a couple of us are looking at riding at Steeplechase on Wednesday night. Probably the usual 6pm timeslot.

During our road ride a few guys (and gals) talked about wanting to ride at Steeplechase Thursday at 6 pm. So if anyone would like to come out and join us, please do!!

Looks like all the cool kids have road bikes.
Might need to get one of those...

Matthew
05-17-2007, 07:18 AM
Hawthorne needs a little work with a chainsaw so I would suggest everyone do steeplechase. It looks like my vehicle will be in the shop tonight so I will probably have to sit this one out. I will be there next week though for sure.

Dhallaway
05-17-2007, 08:13 AM
Matt, I can find room for you if you'd like a ride to Steeplechase.

Andrew, naw, just the guys who wish they knew how to ride mountain were riding on the road last night!

zaskar

I think I'm going to bow out this week. I have a new frame and need to swap out parts from bike to bike. It's been put off for a week now due to me not wanting any downtime from riding. This just proves that a person definately needs two bikes at the minnimum.

Have fun!

I had a beautiful ride out at Eatwood this morning! I scared up a wild turkey just as I was about to go over that loose rock garden, close to the golf course. Nice cool conditons. The trail was in great shape. If anyone wants to join up with me, I'll be out there next week. Time and day??? Tom

Anyone like to have a group ride at Steeplechase on Thursday at 6 pm? The MNSCS race at Steeplechase is June 3rd and I really need more trail time there! :jumpy:

(There could be a few cold beers...)

I'd love to play on some more tight single track, so let's ride Thursday (June 7th) evening at Steeplechase starting at 6 pm.

Remember to bring $5 for the trail fee!

(I have a still shiney new bike which needs training... more maybe it's me who needs training!)

I'm going to do my best to get out there to join you on Thursday. Might not make it by 6, but hopefully I'll bump into you at some point.

Anyone want to join me for a ride at Eastwood Thursday (6/14) evening, 6pm? I may be bringing a couple of new guys along.

Dhallaway
06-15-2007, 08:11 AM
The Thursday ride at Eastwood was hot, but the trails are in great shape thanks to a lot of hard work by Richard, Trevor, Mark, and Karlene! If your looking for some tight turns and short steep hills Eastwood is a blast.

Next week (6/21) Steeplechase at 6 pm. Bring $5!

Sorry, I'm tied up for the next couple of evenings, no MTBing for me.

I did get out last night (Tuesday) and rode the time trial, finished just before the rains moved in!

I am busy moving into my new house this week, but my leg seems to have finally healed up so I will definately be back on the trails next week.

Hey there. What kind of bikes does everyone have? I am looking at getting one this week and wonder what the main type of riding is around here? XC, Downhill, Hardtail? This is probably the wrong forum. I was thinking of getting a downhill, since my property has hills as tall as Steeplechase. I'm not sure if a XC bike could handle the type of jumps I want to build.

zaskar
06-27-2007, 01:52 PM
Definately get the bike that best suits your riding. You may need more than one bike depending on what you plan to be doing. Most of my riding this year has been all XC. I would love to have a FR/DH type bike someday to play on. But for most of the riding I've seen in the Rochester area it would be overkill. That could be me not knowing all of what's available too.

For you it sounds like you have the place to potentially build some nice hits.

Anybody up for a ride on the morning of July 4th at Steeplechase? Thinking between 9 and 10. I'm going either way, just thought that I would see if anyone else is interested.

Matthew

I might make it out there. I will wait to see how early I get to bed tonight.

I'm going to shoot for leaving the parking lot around 10:00 tomorrow morning, in case anybody wants to join me (don't want to have to get up too early).

Matt, you could probably start you lap 15 minutes after me and still have no problem catching up on my first lap :)

Matthew

watch the weather. If steeplechase gets hit with some heavy rain tonight it may not be open until a little later in the day.
