Afton Alps Trail Day and official opening!

What- Trail work in the AM, lunch, ride bikes in the PM
When- Saturday May 12th, 9AM til whenever
Where- Afton Clubhouse on top of hill then head out to the trails at 9:30
Bring- Work Gloves, water bottle/ camel back. We could use extra regular old rakes for leaf removal too, one per person is fine.

Afton is officially opening up to biking. Overall the trails are in good condition. No major erosion occured over the winter, but the trails could use some leaf removal and minor dirt work. We also have a couple of trail improvement projects for those that would like a little more advanced trail work too...

Again this year the 24 Hour course is the main focus of trail maintenance and improvements....

So, if you've never been to Afton this is your ticket to figure out the trails... For those that use Afton as secret training, consider this a way to give back...

May 12th, 9AM... All are invited...

I'm going to try and make this. I don't have a rake but I can bring a leaf blower.

Greg---
A leaf blower would work great, thanks!

Josh---
We've got a new trail mapped out that could incorporate DH/ FR... Would be good for opinions and voices to be heard from that crowd at Afton... Unfortunately this trail will only be cut if time and people are available to help throughout the summer...

Again, anybody that is free on the 12th is more than welcome to participate...

Afton Management says "go ride!" trails are open...

Trail work has begun, but we still have plenty of work (trail clearing/ reroutes) to do before they are groomed...

1 snowpile remains, just ride around.

No trail signs posted yet, so if you don't know your way around get a map at the clubhouse. The 24 Hour course is the focus for trail maintenance, and is the most pain for your buck...

4 minor trail reroutes will be completed over the next month (time permitting) or so leading up to the MNSCS race...

Trail Day... Saturday May 12th, 9AM til 12:30, lunch, the ride!!! All people are welcome to participate!!! Bring work gloves, hydration, and a spare rake if you have one...

Thanks to all that came out to AA on Saturday... We were able to get 3 re-routes completed-

1) The top of Whister now goes around the front of the chairlift to avoid the wash water from the maintenance shop.

2) The transition from NW Crossing to the Hideaway previously dumped on a maintenance road for 40 yards. Rerouted a bench cut on the high side, no more 2 track.

3) Rerouted the flow of Birchwood to enter into Doug's Line. Created about 70 yards of new trail with a little chainring sharpener called "Porter's Pile"...

Thanks again to all who participated- Porter of Wolfchimp, Dave (most improved sufferer) Abrams, Greg/ Timmy, el Goat, Stoenhenge, Stairmaster, Magic "the game", and John "Taz" Reents...

Also thanks to Afton Alps and Staff, Behind Bars & Chug, and our band of misfits and MMA wanna be's (LCR)...

We'll be doing more work still plenty to do, stay tuned...

Good times Larry! I am up for trail work again whenever you need a hand. Wish I could have stayed for another lap afterwards but it just didn't work into the schedule.

Copy that... Still plenty of work to do... Leaf removal, erosion control and what not. Magic is suppose to be doing some more work this week...

Stay for another lap? Actualy did 2 more...

Full 24 hour laps, not cheater laps, you know the misery drill... Those guys claiming to have done 5 laps... Funny, where was their tread up manhandler/whistler??? They must be magicians...

I agree. They must have been doing 5 laps on the MNSCS course and those don't count. Anything other than the 24hr course it cheating!

I think I am faster after doing trail work... was beat down after 5 hours and then a lap....but recovery and a ride today made me feel real good....maybe more people should try it - great cross training ( and you get to know where the new line is ) MNSCS and 24 will be better again this year with yet again more upgrades.

A lap is a lap but what line did you take ???????? riddle time

Always take the hard line. It makes you tougher in the long run. Pain is good!
