I went there on Sunday with my son. Really surpised that it was so muddy in those spots we had to run and jump so our shoes did not get soaked. But the rest of it was bone dry.

Can't wait to help out on the new trails. Anyone know if a timeframe has been established?

No timeframe that I'm aware of... Three Rivers may have one though.

I'd guess we're at least 4 or 5 years out.

This spring was definately the wettest I've seen for this trail. Just rode this morning and it is in near perfect condition, just a few tacky spots.

Has anyone been running into hikers and walkers on this trail??? I ride it about 3 times a week, and nearly each time I ride, I come across a hiker, walker, jogger, ect on the parts of the trail we do not share.

I've been riding this trail for about 5 years on a regular basis and have noticed an increase in foot traffic on the trial.

Last summer, there was a mom and 2 children walking up the trail on the fastest downhill section. It was very scary to see them walking in such a dangerous part of the trail.

I spoke to the Three Rivers Park bike patrol that day as they were in the park, and the response I got was they could put up a "billboard" and people would still walk on the trail.

While I know that we always need to be considerate of others on the trail, I feel that something should be done to help improve the sinage on this trail to make it more safe for all who use it.

I'm open to feedback from others and will help anyway I can.

Thanks!

I'm unaware of any dirt/turf trails in Three Rivers that are closed to hikers in the spring/summer/fall months.

As far as I know, the "mountain bike trail" in Lake Rebecca Park Reserve is actually dual-use and open to hikers. Here is a link to the Lake Rebecca visitor map which lists it as Hiking/Mountain Biking:

http://www.threeriversparkdistrict.org/parks/maps/Lake_Rebecca_summer.pdf

I have been told in the past that pretty much every dirt trail is open to hikers (unless you are walking a dog... dog walkers are limited to certain trails/areas).

Is there signage posted on the trail that says it is closed to hikers? Where does it say bikers only?

The map clearly does show that this is a dual use trail. Thank You for posting as this will help others who go to use the trail. The trail signs really need to be updated.

Is there signage posted on the trail that says it is closed to hikers? - No, in all but 2 places, I only see bike signs with nothing else.

Where does it say bikers only? - It does not say this explicitely, but the trail lacks hiking signs.

Three Rivers must not yet be current between their maps and the actual trail signs.

There are only two sections of this trail where the signs show it is shared between mountain bikes and hikers.

(Milage is estimated)

1. Between miles (0.0 & 0.3) For a very short section at the trailhead before the trails break up. Hikers have a trail to the left, and bikers continue straight, then ride up a steep hill. Each trail is marked by sinage, one with a "hiking sign" the other marled by a "mountain biking sign"

2. Between miles (1.9 & 2.5) (between the paved trail and the camp) At the paved trail point of entry to the turf trail, there is actually the two signs, (hiker & mountain bike) When one get to mile 2.5, the trail has a "T" in it when one can go two directions. (To the left marked by a "hiker sign" and a "DO NOT Mountain Bike sign" and to the right (marked only by a Mountain Bike Sign).

All other points of entry to the trail (where the turf trail intersects another trial), only show a "mountain bike sign".

The other turf trails are very clearly marked with the intended users of the trail and who should not use the trail for some reason, the trail that mountain bikers use is not well marked.

Is there a point of contact MORC has at Three Rivers with whom this information can be shared with so the sinage can be updated?

Thanks!

Thanks for the detailed description Jason.

I'm the MORC contact for Three Rivers, but since MORC isn't involved with the trails up at Lake Rebecca I don't have a direct contact within the park staff at LR.

I'll try and get some clarification after the holiday weekend, but you may have better luck calling 763/694-7860... it's the number for Rebecca/Baker/Crow-Hassen.

I would assume what I was told stands though... all trails are open to hiking (w/o dogs), unless specifically labeled with "no hiking" signs.

Thanks! I'll give them a call!

It's important that we get this trail signed correctly so it is safe for all users. I'll try to help spread the word to other mountain bikers who I see on this trail so they are also aware it is ok for the shared use.

I noticed the mixed signage too, on my stop out there today. Trail seemed sloppy in the low areas and corners, the rest of the trail rode fine.
