My wife and I are moving to her home town of Wells, MN and her grandma owns a plot of land three miles outside of town that could be ideal for singletrack trails. Have a look at my rough idea:

So, any of you in the area who'd like a simple, 2-3 mile trail in the middle of nowhere but close to where you live in the boonies of southern, rural MN take note! :) You may wanna volunteer for this trail work.

Well, my mother-in-law talked to the land onwer (her mom) and she said it'd be OK to build trails on the property! She just had a question about insurance changes because of it. I wonder if she means liability and all that. I'm sure IMBA and MORC have good information on that end of things.
Who wants to help flag it? :jumpy:

I saw the thread about building a trail outside of Wells. I'm originally from Wells, and am currently living in Mankato. Who is your wife, it's a small town so I'm sure I know her. Is the trail going to be north of town? If you need any help, let me know.

Chris, what app did you use to do that drawing? Google Earth?

Yeah, I used Google Earth for that. The drawing was done using a measuring tool in the program and I was mostly trying to get a rough idea how much mileage I could get in an area like that. The actual layout of the trail could be very different, of course.
Josh, check your PMs! :)
I made some headway with this trail over the weekend, too. I scouted it out very briefly just to get an idea of how thick the woods are. The potential for a quick rake-and-ride trail is certainly there. The slope of the hills is pretty gentle so you can get away with no bench cuts at first. Trees aren't so close together, either, so you won't have too many thin trees to cull like the buckthorn at Theo.
I also used my charms on "Pastor Meg" at the Lutheran church in town and got her all excited about teaching church youth to build mountain bike trails ;).
Next trip down I'm going to need a big roll of red ribbon.
