You can use regular road brake levers with a Travel Agent installed.

Otherwise you will need to use DiaCompe 287-V levers.

I use a travel agent on my cyclo-cross bike and it works great. I mixed a 105 brake/shifter to an older model xt v-brake with no problems. As I recall they were a little tough to set-up, but once I got it dialed in I haven't had an issue and that was about 3 years ago.

Ditto on the Travel Agents. They've worked well for me too.
While they're more expensive than they should be, they're cheaper than the 287-V's

Or just use cantis. Then you don't need the travel agent.
