I am not too into technology so I don't know where to start on this, but thought this was a good place. I am going to purchase a home video camera and while I'm at it I want to buy something that will accept a helmet camera to record some rides. It doesn't have to be top of the line down hiller quality, but I will use it to record some mtb rides/races as well as some road stuff.

Anybody have suggestions for a helmet camera / video camera combo? Also, please ball park the prices so I know what I'm getting into...
Thanks,
Mario

Check out VioSport cameras. They are based in Marquette, MI and are really into mountain biking.

With helmet cams you get what you pay for. I understand not wanting to spend a lot of money and you will have to see what comfortable spending vs. the quality of picture.

Be sure that you have the correct input option on the video camera before you buy it. Otherwise the helmet cam is useless.

I second the Viosport choice.

I've used their cameras for several events. From Great Lakes Surfing in December to DH mtn biking to taking on the rapids of the spring thaw, to the rigors of drag racing. Their stuff is always rock solid, never had a problem with the stuff I have used from them!!!

Build your own.

Much cheaper and not that difficult. Plus you will get a better camera out of the deal (Depending upon which one you source).

Have been thinking of posting up a "How To" on this for a while now. Might actually get around to it this weekend.

Thanks for the recommendation. I actually met the VioSport guys in 2001 in Marquette when they could fit all their inventory in a back pack. They had just filmed the Ore To Shore MTB race.

I have it narrowed down to a Viosport or a BulletCam (they're out of Woodbury). Anyone have a BulletCam ?

Viosport or a BulletCam

For what they are charging I should get in the business. ;)

Actually have looked at boht and think that they have similar products. Need to add the photos for the "how to." Posting should be up by Friday.

I picked up one of the GoPro Helmet, board, kayak...cams yesterday. Here is a bit of info and a short out of the box video I did today while recovering from walking around for 13 hours a day for three days talking to 100+ people a day. Tomorrow I'm taking it to ALTA and putting on one of my skis.

BEWARE THE LOUD NOISE AT THE END OF THE VIDEO! I don't have any editing software here.

I bought one back in September. I think for the money it's not that bad. I wish I would have waited a little longer to buy mine because when I bought it they did not have the helmet mount for it yet. Also this camera loves to eat batteries so rechargeables are a must.
