Simple question really.

The seat post clamp is at the 6" mark, the bend at 11" is supposed to be there. This is after 6 years of use on my hardtail. The seatpost is actually ballooned out a little right above where the clamp was.

Welcome to the club. As you get older and "more sturdy", this kind of thing happens more often. Sturdy riders need sturdy bikes.
Do I sense some competition in the Senior Clydesdale class?

Surly should make seat posts with the fff!;)
Have seen quite a bit of Ti. If you were to replace it with another Ti post a few that I could reccomend would be James with Blacksheep or an Erickson post.
Of course there is always the tried and true Thomson post, but that will be stiffer than a ti version.
Will be talking with James later today and will get some pricing info on a post. Let me know if you want to go that route as I can have him throw a post in with a shipment that I have headded this way.

Nice, better the post than killing a frame. Off of your Ti SS I assume. I bent two posts in 3 years on my Stumpy hardtail both were Al. I've been having great luck with my Thomson posts 1 is 3 years and the other is 2, both are setbacks.
Six years!!! Bike parts last six years.....crap I'm glad no one ever told my ex-wife that when we were married. She was under the assumption that it was mandatory to replace them every other year. I can't imagine why she thought that?
You can look at it this way Ted. There is just more of you to love now! :p
Now go watch an artsy fartsy sappy chick flick with John and life will be complete! :D ;)

This is the post off of my Ti SS. I think the bending happened over time, not all at once.
I have another post that I put on in it's place. I got an extra post under warranty since Airbourne could not figure out that stainless fasteners into Ti does not work.

James at Black Sheep. <24hr turnaround on custom fab Ti posts using Thomson clamp design. They are available in different gauges for different gravitational pulls. Gorgeous and supple (for a turgid post).

Marriage, kids, old age, bent seat posts. I see a pattern here. I've been following that pattern too.
I don't know where Bob lies... breaking frames and all :)
