Anybody have a good skewer recommendation for semi-horizontal drops? I switched over to bolt-on skewers (Nashbar) and still had my rear wheel slip under heavy load. This is on a steel frame Lemond roadie.

I had a similar problem on my LeMond. Try using a washer with some threads/teeth on it. Putting one of those on each end of a regular skewer fixed things for me.
Good Luck!!

Skewer?
XTR type skewer will hold the best, but also the most expensive and may not be the ideal solution.
Bolt-on is a stronger option nomally. Depends on bolt type being used and surface area pinching the hub to the frame.
First I would check the hub face where it holds agianst the frame. Is this a smooth surface or finished to give you some bite? Second is washers on the bolt smooth or finished? If smooth then they wont hold as good.
Have some old-school philwood ends that I'll attempt to locate that you can use. If not best cheap solution is head over to Home Depot for a set of external star washers capped with thick regular washers. This will force all the segments of the star washer into the frame holding the wheel solid.

Find a nice old (cheap) skewer, the kind with the steal knurling on both the cam side and the nut. Make sure the faces of the skewer are steal, aluminum = bad. Crank that baby down the proper way that skewers are really supposed to be closed and you should be just fine.

salsa? Don't know if they'll work for that but they're about the strongest you'll find.

A fine skewer for vertical dropouts. However, aluminum faces do not have the same amount of surface grip. Because the design of the cam in the clamp, the clamping force is not as great as what you'll find on an enclosed cam type skewer. I'll defer to the man here to help 'splain: http://sheldonbrown.com/skewers.html

My Salsa Filip Off's work great on "Track" dropouts on my MTB... Ted, I think we were talking about this on Don's ride.
