View Full Version : Disc Rotor Bolts
Okay this is a lame question, but here goes...
When you purchase a disc rotor and a disc compatible hub which of these components should supply the rotor mounting bolts?

The caliper.
Never got bolts with a wheel, don't believe I got bolts with just a rotor either.

What he said. Every caliper+disc I've ever bought (all Avid BB7's) came with bolts.

Niether, rotors only sometimes come with rotor bolts. If you buy a whole brake it always comes with the rotor bolts. But just a rotor and a hub, the bolts will usually have to be purchased seperately.

Guess I got screwed (so to speak). I bought a front Avid BB7 disc brake set and it didn't come with the bolts. I will check the packaging again to see if I missed them.

If it came in a box, there should be a small zip lock bag with the bolts. The bag is underneath of the cardboard that is displaying the parts. I think it is the same bag that the caliper bolts come in. It should have everything you need, other than cables. It also has a cheapo torx wrench that you should throw away.
If you bought it from an OEM place like Speedgoat where they don't give you the box, it comes wrapped in the plastic tissue.
Have several sets of rotor bolts and would be happy to help get you rolling. Do you need a set for both front and rear?
Found that the Avid BB7 Calipers and Rotor did not ship with the rotor bolts.
But I picked up a new Avid rotor from Edina Bikes and it came shrink wrapped with the bolts. Go figure.
Andy I am set for bolts now, thanks for the offer though.

That doesn't sound right. I just did another set of BB7s last night, and all the bolts were in the box. I'd complain to the folks that sold you the brakes.

Whatever you do, be sure the bolts you ultimately use have Torx heads. Every hex bolt head I've had ultimately rounds out.
Whoever sold you the brake kit should pony up the proper bolts (and Avid's are Torx).
