Hey Joe!

It is late notice, but we are having a MORC meeting tomorrow (3/20) at the Brewed Awakening coffee shop @ 7:00. It is kitty corner from the court house. We presently have about 2.5 miles of trail flagged and look forward to your generous offer of hard labor. We will try to keep these trail building sessions posted here.
As of yet, we do not have any rides scheduled.

Is this new trail behing the High School?

I am definatly up for some hard labor.

I wouldn't mind hitting up some of the Shingle Mill single track as soon as the snow is out of the woods and the trails are not completely mud.

Thanks for keeping us updated.

YO!

I'm new to the Baxter area, and would love to ride with some people who are familiar with Brainerd/Grand Rapids area! I'm in that area a few times a month, so let me know what, where, and when!

 Hey Joe, I know what you mean. I also groom ski trails, and if the equipment wasn't put away, I would be out there grooming tonight. We haven't set up either a work day or ride day with the weather the way it is. We need to get our hand tools ordered so we will be ready to go when the time comes.

Drew, when you have a chance to ride Shinglemill, let us know! If we can get away, we would sure join you. Ken Boss has spent time out there, but I don't know the right trails.

Erik, let us know when you are headed for town and we will try to make connections.

Some friends & I are coming up to GR area next weekend & would love to ride some good singletrack. Sounds like Shinglemills is pretty cool. How are conditions? How do you get to the trails? Any place else worthy? North of GR?

Hi Dave,
I don't know hoow the Shingle Mill trails are, but last weekend Kathy and I walked the South Suomi ski trails. They were in real good condition. Only a couple wet spots. It was about a six mile hike. Suomi Hill is about twelve miles north on Hwy. 38. North Suomi has about as many miles of trail, and then they connect. About a fourteen mile ride from one lot to the other and back. We are also building trail west of the x-c ski trails near the local high school. Just about anyone can send you in the right direction. :) Happy Trails!

Are the suomi trails single track or wide skate skiing trails.

The Suomi ski trails are narrow single tracked. It is a great ride. Stop at the local bike shop,Itasca Trail Sports, and talk to Chandra. She was out and rode them last week.

Backcountry Trail Patroller Rose Andresen rides the Suomi Hills trails on a fairly regular basis. Jason Gross rides and camps in the Trout Lake area and Tommy Rodengen will be back at Simpson Creek from time to time this summer. I will talk with them about signing into the MORC forums and filing trail reports.

In getting our program in Chequamegon N.F. up and running last year (and spraining my ankle twice in the process) I did not get up to the Chippewa at all. Gas prices are high, but I plan to come up at least one week this summer. (Got to be there on a Friday for the fish fry at the Gosh Dam Place! :D ) Our Chippewa trails patrol has been going for seven years now. Come up and ride with us, or better yet, join the patrol!
