So what's the deal with Murphy? Are we going to get it fixed up and going this year or be bogged down in bureacracy again or let the contractor muck around for awhile? What's up?

After it's done(when?), will we be able to ride it all year/season, instead of a short fall session(& winter if you're on that)?

Ready to help out ............... Bill

Thanks for the interest in the trail.

Not much has changed from the last Murphy newsletter report (see the Fall newsletter). Trail construction/finishing will start again in the spring. The trail is still expected to open in June. Additions and non-essential projects (TTFs and other fun stuff) will be completed throughout the season by MORC volunteers.

After it opens, the typical Murphy season should be similar to other trails in the area (except no winter riding)... it'll open in the spring, close early winter. We are working toward winter and night riding, but it may take a while to get approved (if at all).

Also... I've been surprised at the lack of bureaucracy from Three Rivers so far, especially considering their size and number of responsibilities. Regarding the contractor... they definitely didn't muck around last season. The time frame the contractor set in place was much quicker than ours.

This is just a guess, but maybe TTF = Technical Trail Features (berms, skinnys, jumps, etc)

I think the trail will be rideable in June, but this is a new trail so the features will be added over time.

This is going to be a nice trail. Get yourself onto Pete's list of volunteers.

That's a good guess.

Can anyone give a preview of what the new Murphy will look like. I have heard people say it will be similar to Leb. Which would be great since the flow and features/stunts at Leb are my favorite in the city (I have said it before, nice work Leb crew), but it would be good to have another trail with similar characteristics. Leb is busy, and by the end of the season, I can practically ride it with my eyes closed.

It will be like Leb in that it will have quite a few technical trail features, but nearly all of them have ride-arounds. Most of them will also be spread throughout a roughly 7 mile advanced loop, so less concentrated as Leb.

Only a few of the features will be completed for the opening in June. The trails should have a bit more 'flow' than Leb, but flow is kind of subjective in my opinion.

What will it look like? That's pretty hard to answer until the tread is compacted and the final lines are set. We'll know more in June. Thanks for your patience.

As stated before, the entire area around the new singletrack is considered a Three Rivers construction site and is closed to the public. It doesn't matter if you are on a bike, on a horse, or on foot. Saying you're from MORC or dropping names won't work either. If you are in the area, you'll get a ticket. Apparently they have given out a handfull of tickets already... not worth it in my book.

Weekly trailwork will start after the trail opens. Sunday is Murphy's day... with the possibility of weekday/weeknight trailwork in the summer (which day is still to be determined).

If you want, PM me your email address and I'll put you on the list.
