City closes most trails
Duluth News Tribune
Published Thursday, March 15, 2007
Keene Creek Dog Park and most City of Duluth trails are now closed to public use due to soggy conditions, the city’s Department of Parks and Recreation announced today.
Although temperatures are cooler today, the recent warm weather has caused surfaces at the dog park and the trails to become soft, making them vulnerable to rutting and possible erosion. Because of that, the city is asking people not to use city hiking trails, snowmobile trails and cross country ski trails until drier weather improves trail conditions. The city will announce when the trails reopen.
Trails that remain open are the Lakewalk, the Willard Munger State Trail and the Western Wa-terfront Trail. The far western and eastern ends of Skyline Parkway are closed off to vehicle traffic and can be used by walkers and bicyclists.
