Hello --

I'm building a bike for my brother and his inseam is ~31". I am leaning toward a 19" frame. Any help would be appreciated. :D

I think a 17" would be a better call.

Its not the seam, its the top tube. If he's 5'10" a 19" may be on the big side. My buddy is 6' even and he is right in between a 17 and a 19-can go either way. Anyone....Bueller?

I'm 5'10" and have a roughly 32-33 inch inseam and can ride a 19" without clearance issues on most lines of bikes, but 17-17.5 (M) sized frames just feel a bit more natural. A lot more goes into it than just standover height, but without doing a big fitting I think the M would give the best starting point.

I'm about 5'11", 31" inseam, and slightly longer than average arms, and the 19" frames (size L) tend to be a bit long for me. I have a few mediums sized frames from different manufacturers that all seem to fit pretty well.

Standover height is a just a very general starting point for frame sizing. Of course, you can alter the fit a little with seat post adjustements and different length stems and more or less head tube spacers, but they are all just masking a poor fit, and sometimes changing the characteristics of the bike (sometimes better, sometimes worse... depending on who you ask).

Bottom line, Medium, or 17" would probably be your best starting point.

5'9" and 32 inseam, I still never ride a frame bigger then a 16.5/17

Then again I fall alot, and prefer to not hit,.......;)
