I hope it's OK to post this here.

My Redline Monocog 29er, 17" was stolen from my garage in South Minneapolis yesterday. It's brown and has a Shimano Nexus 8 speed hub.

Let me know if anyone sees it.

Thanks,
Rob

Its ok to post. Sorry to hear about your theft! It seems I'm hearing more and more stories of theft lately in the metro area.

Hope you get our bike back, or you get a really cool replacement.

I'm going to call my insurance today and be sure I'm covered for my bikes. I'm also going to have to rig up a better and more secure way of storing them.

We should all learn from the many "stolen" stories lately and be sure to check insurance, write down serial numbers etc. I think it even helps to have receipts handy for valuables and pictures I think help too.

Video cameras work great to take an inventory of everything you own, Just go room to room in your house and tape everything. Then send the tape to a relative to keep or put it in a safety deposit box if you have one. Just keep it outside the house in case of a fire.

Just be sure to not send the wrong tape to the relatives. DOH! :crazy2:

Sorry about your bike. Some advice:
1. If you haven't already done so, FILE A POLICE REPORT. Can't stress this enough, as it will be the only way to get your bike back should you find it.

2. Keep the following things in your car/within easy access at all times:
- A copy of said Police Report
- Proof of purchase for the bike, preferably with the serial number
- A good bike lock, which you can use to secure your bike when you find it, until the cops can arrive and help you claim it
- A cell phone to call the cops and report finding your bike (see above)

This has happened to me. Bike theft is an opportunity crime, and whoever stole it probably doesn't live, work or hang out far from where you are.

Keep your eyes peeled. And good luck.

Just out of curiousity, was your garage locked up?

I have been wondering if I need to lock up my bikes in my garage, even though it's locked. I'm guessing it would probably be a good idea, but I haven't gotten around to doing so.

This is a good comment. In talking with a few people I was surprised to find that many people actually don't file a report at all. Even if a person doesn't plan to file a claim etc. it should be reported. The police can't help us if we're not telling them about the crimes that affect us. Filing a report seems to take only minutes - its mostly done electronically and will only take a few moments of a person's time.

When I called the police I was surprised that they sent out an officer. She arrived in less than an hour and took the report.

My garage was open. Someone in my family left the overhead door open. The thief dug through our car glove boxes, then took the coolest bike in the garage. They're were others left behind.

My bike had egg beaters on it. I hope the thief smashed his shins when he slipped on them. I'm guessing he rode the bike away. But who knows.

With the Nexus hub and egg beaters, I had about $750 into it. I don't know what my homeowner's deductible is. I'm going to call my insurance guy today. It's probably not worth the claim though.

I have all my bikes, windsurfing and kitesurfing, skiis and my nicer powertools locked up in my garage. I then have a secure lockbox bolted to the concrete flow that holds the keys to my gear. I don't mess around with this stuff.

I'll keep a watchfull eye for you bike should it make it to the coon rapids area.

You've got me excited about registering bikes, it looks like you can register a bike with the national bike registry after it has been stolen,

I would think there's a very good possibility of it showing up a ways from home.

Do you have record of the serial number? Depending on which shop you bought it from they may have the serail number on file. I know at Eric's when I worked there we kept this info in your customer profile.
