I went out today for a ride and thought I would try and make it to my work in Edina from Apple Valley and back, 17 miles one way. To do so I went up Galaxie into Blackhawk to Hwy 13 and over to the 494 bridge and here is where the trouble began. To get onto the walking bridge had to walk the bike through mud and snow sticking to the snow as much as possible. The first part of the bridge was clear till I got our of the fenced in area and hit the paved trail there which was coverd in couple inches of snow yet. I went to easy gears and tried to push my way onward but couldn't get through the snow. I had on a light hiking sock with my bike shoes with another pair of socks over the shoes to help block out wind and my feet were perfectly fine with the weather till they got wet at this point. It was also about 4:30 or so and the sun had hidden behind some clouds so discouraged with wet feet there were only getting colder I had someone come pick me up. But I was making decent time and having a good ride till that point, Oh well another week or two and that bridge will be open and I'll try getting all the way to my work on a weekend again. Trying to get a good sense of how long it will take me to get to work, maybe I can commute a couple days a week this summer to stay in shape, Hwy 13 seems like it might be a bit scary though during rush hour.
