View Full Version : Snowshoeing Info?
Thought you guys would be the best to ask. Has anyone done any snowshoeing around the cities recently?
Where is the best place to go?
Is there enough snow to make it fun?

There hasn't been enough snow for snowshoeing in the Twin Cities in years! I was out today and there isn't much snow at all.

I went snowshoeing at inver grove heights--salem hills and the snow wasn't really deep enough to justify it, but it was a lot of fun.

I suggest the 4hr drive to Hurley/Ironwood - plenty of lake effect snow up 'der.

I might have spoken too soon. There isn't much snow in Minneapolis, but I was in the southwest suburbs today and there was more snoe. Maybe not ideal snowshoeing snow, but 4-5 inches. Better hit it soon, it's going to go quick with this week's weather.

I always go to Carriage Hills Golf Course in Eagan. It's a 140-acre expanse of an abandon golf course on rolling hills and deep drifts of snow. If the snow falls this weekend as scheduled, it'll be an epic snowshoe hike/workout.
Just ignore the "No Trespassing" signs. Everyone else does.

Hey, thanks for all of the info everyone. My new snowshoes still are sitting unused. I decided to go for a run on my day off instead. As far as Saturday I'll be trying out kite skiing in Mille Lacs instead. If we get all of this snow predicted I will have to bust out some serious snowshoeing/freeride skiing.

With the amount of snow they are predicting, we should have good snowshoeing conditions this weekend until it melts. I'll try to break my snowshoes out for probably the first time in 5 years this weekend and next week. Snowshoeing is a blast if we get enough snow.

I was thinking I could help out snowshoeing at Leb. I wonder if my snowshoes still work!

if i'm looking to pick up snowshoes in order to pack trails around southern MN and the metro but also would like them to function decently if I make a trip or two up north or to colorado for general hiking exploring what should i be looking for in a snowshoe?
the outside gear guide had a few in the $120 price range that I figured would work.

Head up to Cabela's in Rogers and check out the snowshoes they've got. They're pretty knowledgeable about them and can get you the correct flotation, articulation, comfort and traction for around the cities and up north. Also, you can rent snowshoes up at Lutsen mountains for under $20

REI also rents snow shoes if you wanted to try out a couple different types/sizes.
