My 2 cents- If close to the Metro race on Saturday... If outstate, then race Sunday... Sunday racing allows Saturday to travel and visit the area/ pre-ride...

I also prefer racing before noon... A 1PM Sunday start on a balmy July afternoon is a beatdown in and of itself... But I doubt that'll ever change, and it's really not as important as other racing variables anyhow...

Where did the term "pre-ride" come from anyhow? I ain't "before-riding" anything... If anything it should be "pre-racing the ride", or something like that...

Yeah I like Sunday for races if you have to travel but everyone has to travel to the races. Some just have to go farther than others.

I've raced on Sunday's my whole life, mx and mtb. I would like to see some races on Saturday so I could spend some time with the family on Sunday, and rest before work on Monday. Man do I sound old or what.:D

XC on Sunday is a must. Keep Sat. open for DH/FR events or as others have made mention, travel time and pre-ride time. It's been like this for as long as I can remember. Let's not reinvent the wheel here.

Yuuuppppp! Pre-race camping is where it's at. A bunch of cool mountain bikers hanging out, "carbo loading," possibly drumming together a cash pool for a naked crit (disclaimer: these usually turn into bratwurst festivals, although still fun). It seems like these days everyone shows up to the race an hour or so before the start, races, then rides directly over to their vehicle to head home. Road races have always been like that. However, back in the early 90's, when I started racing, it was the comeraderie that pre-race camping provided, that really got me hooked. Mt Du-lac has it on-site, but I think they're the only ones. Offering pre-race camping is bound to get more "recreational" moutain bikers out to the races. It makes the whole weekend into more of an "event" than just a competition.

OK, clearly in the minority here, but I prefer Saturday. My main reason for this is that racing on Sunday means that I can't ride hard on Saturday if I want to be well prepared for the race. I'd rather let it all hang out on Saturday, and then ride at whatever pace and distance I want at my leisure on Sunday. Also, pre-riding isn't really necessary. Finally, I've often got family things going on Sunday mornings.

It would be nice if races could be earlier in the day too. The worst thing about MNSCS races is that the longest races start in the heat of day.

there is a camp ground less than a mile via bike trail from welch village, did many people camp there last year? not on site but very close.

I have camped there many times. You can easily bike from that camp site to Welch. Plus, they have a river you can jump in after the race. Spirit Mt. has an onsite campground as well...not too bad either.

Is there a significant number of other racers there? anyone can camp in my backyard for any of the nearby races, isn't exactly onsite, but it's free and within twenty minutes of welch, memorial and steeplechase.
