It has been awhile sense anyone posted on this thread and I was wondering if anyone in the GR area does any winter biking. I am currently studing a pair of old tires so I can ride on lakes. Post up...............

Hi Drew,

I don't personally ride off road in the winter. My favorite trails to ride turn into ski trails during the winter. However, I sure would like to know how the lake ridding is going. Have you tried out your tires yet?

Drew, you just need to come to Duluth to do some winter biking. I will show you a good time.

Hey, i live in Hibbing. i'm currently laid off, and geting in much more riding than i normally do this time of year. the lack of snow is not a bad thing, to me that is. i've run studded tires, and i've made my own. with this new found time on my hands i'm thinking of making myself some tires, put still milling over the idea. i've never had much of a problem running lower tire pressure, but that also means i can't ride (without being very alert) on the area lakes, which is a blast!!
anyway.
Peace,
Joe

Cannondale is working good, thanks. :)

Well it is crazy cold now so I haven't been riding on the lake or trails. The studded tires work awesome on glare ice and snow, I am definatly glad I made them.

Chandra where are you located at? Do you do much mountain biking?

I don't put as many miles on my mountain bike as my road bike. However, this last summer I did more mountain biking than usual including my first race. It was a blast!

After hearing so much about this winter biking, I decided to give it a try. This last weekend I was in Duluth, so I made a point to take my bike and swing by Hartley. Thanks to the locals who keep the trail packed and fast. What a thrilling experience! "Don't knock it till you try it!"
