I thought Lake Rebecca needed someone to post up! It was looking pretty lonely! Well, the Lake Rebecca Mountain Bike trail is closed for the winter. I'm also pretty sure they close the whole park on Dec. 1st each year for the winter season. Though, I haven't confirmed that for this year. I don't think they have x-country skiing at Rebecca. A fresh new post for Rebecca! Rebecca trail is probably pretty happy! ;)

Any plans for Rebecca on the horizon? There is so much variation to the terrain out there it could be made into a mountain biking mecca. Whenever I ride it I'm always scoping out the possibilities. It really has a good mix of dense woods, open vistas, lakes, and rolling hills.
Yep, she's a raw gem with a lot of natural beauty left untapped.

In discussions with Three Rivers Parks District, Lake Rebecca is one of their top priorities. Best bet would put it on the plan to be redeveloped within the next 3-5 years. Of course government 3-5 years is differenct from reality so the window may be longer than that or shorter depending upon $$$$$$.

It's on the south edge of Rockford, MN. Probably about 35 miles west of downtown Minneapolis off of highway 55.

There currently is an easy mountain bike loop that is perfect for small kids just starting out! Or even someone new to riding an off-road bike. Its a hilly course, so its good for training for a race like Cheq Fat also! Lots of good views and wildlife. This will be a great park for proper single-track! Plus, there's lots of other stuff to do, like swimming. It would be a great hangout for a big barbeque and ride, if/when a trail is developed!! They have a cool playground also! A very nice park, lots of hiking trails.

My only memory of this trail is that both times I rode it my bike ended up being covered in mud. This was probably about 4 years ago before I knew anything about trails. I jst remember being scared I was going to fall over when I almost got stuck in this low part of the trail. The other time I tried to walk around the wet area, and this time my shoes ended up covered in mud instead of my tires. I have not been back, but it does have a lot of potential.

I spent quite a bit of time out there 2 years ago when the topic about Rebecca first came up in discussions with three rivers. I surveyed most of the trail and determined that 95% of it was laid out wrong. The trail was run down the fall line of the slope, through wet areas, and many times on the flat areas. The area has tremendous potential and a great mountain bike trail would only add to the interest from the public in this area. I believe that if we put some awesome trails with challenge into rebecca we could have another destination like Murphy (will become) and Lebanon Hills.

Will, you are right, there was a few seasons when the trail was flooded and really wet for a great portion of the summer. Much of the park was flooded one season. There are some very low areas that are always wet during wet seasons. This was a first-generation mountain bike trail, and as Tim stated, it has many problems. last year the park did some reroutes that have helped somewhat for the short term. Basically zigzagging down the fall lines, instead of straight down. They basically just mowed a new route. Its fun if you go for the views and wildlife. A proper trail in the future, and this could be one of the coolest parks for all around fun in the outer metro!! They also have a cool tar bike path, for fun riding in the early spring when the off-road trails are still wet and closed.

Does Lake Rebecca have a higher priority with 3 Rivers than Elm Creek? Say it ain't so, Tim! Elm Creek may not have the best terrain potential, but it certainly is a lot closer to that large mass of north suburban riders that sorely need a place to ride.

Elm Creek and Lake Rebbecca are the two parks that are being considered for single-track trails. At this time I couldn't tell you which is most likely to be first. I've learned not to rely on speculation.

I will speculate----I think Elm Creek should be first priority followed by Lake Rebecca. My rational is that Elm Creek is closer to the population base and would have greater user support at this time than Lake Rebecca. That again is just speculation.

Sorry Tim, that's not speculation, that's logic. You have to learn to think like we think..
Indian mounds = monkey wrench... and so forth...
