I'm riding my single speed this winter and I was wondering what gear ratios people are running out there. Bob Shep gave me a few ideas but I thought I would post up and see what everyone else is using.

32x18 till the snow gets deep and then either a 20 or 22 in the rear. Not about the speed in winter just getting to the end of the ride.

we usually drop 2 teeth on the cog when winter hits up here in the north.

And i'm nomaly grabbing more teeth... depends on the style of rideing you'll be doing. i like higher gears in the winter, harder to spin and more traction gained, but i also play on icerinks when you get it spinin fast enough you can do donuts, kinda fun, and a good test of balance. not clipped in of course lol

You take them off or they fall off due to the cold? :D

if you're running 700c, you can do what i do and just ride fixed 45x16 with 35c cross tires, i don't really have a gearing that i'm set on for the MTB yet though....

For packed trails 32x20 works well. If you want to ride in the soft stuff, i would go 32x22. This is for 26" wheels.

I am running 28/16. Not ideal but it is the only size chainring I have that is SS compatible without going to a 40/16. On dirt/snow I think it will be fine but extremely slow on the road.
After I got old and fat and settled on a 32x18 I haven't changed, it seems to work fine in the winter too.
